The Long Road to the Repair Shop

You may know me as Nik's Mom, I have the beautiful 1980 W123 300D white euro-speced Benz (gray market). I am back in Sacramento for the weekend to attend my high school reunion. My Benz had a front main seal leak when I took delivery and was going to have it replaced back home in Louisiana. So after a few calls and discussions with the local mechanics I decided to find someone who had the same passion for my car that I do. So that lead me to “why not go back to Drobot Diesel” who had being on the rebuilt of my car before I took delivery. So made an appointment and on 26 August we made the drive back to Sacramento to get that front main seal replaced. Did I mention the car is euro-speced....no air conditioning so it was a act of love to bring her in August through the deserts to the mechanics who would treat my car like I would treat her if I could do that repair action.

So now that my car is totally repaired, no oil leak what so ever, I wanted to give them a shout out to the great reasonable service I received. They inspected her and actually saw a couple of other small items that needed to be repaired too. The showed me and explained what needed to be done and made sure that I approved the work prior to ordering parts and starting the work. They have the love for these cars that they deserve. I have linked a post from my son that give all their details.

Thank you Mike and Derek!!!! You are the best. I am hoping to move closer so then I can have you do the needed repairs that I can't do myself.

I was the wrench turner. We replaced the front seal with an erling seal, replaced the turbo drain seals (you know, the puzzle) and found a loose bolt on the block that had a crush washer behind it. We also replaced the o-rings for the oil seperator that were shot. We then took it to our neighborhood car wash and made it like new.

Our goal is to become THE vintage benz shop in norcal. Mainly because we enjoy working on nearly aircraft grade cars and we love them ourselves.

Oh stop complaining about not having any ac

I have never had a car that had ac, until my 78....but that needs repair...

I took my euro with out ac on a 5000+ mile trip at the beginning of the month and survived

If you come through this desert stop and say hi!

I am very happy with my car not having AC I was just making the point that it was important to have a mechanic with passion and I would drive thru the desert to have Drobot Diesel fix my sweet Benz. And I am sure I will make that trip again if she needs that attention again.

It is a total adventure in my car and it is sad that people don't understand that AC is not required. I need to come by and meet you and say HI some time.
