What are you buying in new york? Seems like the rust is horrible out there...

jake12tech 09-02-2014 07:58 PM

I thought we had a talk about W210s and rust?

pgringo 09-02-2014 08:10 PM

i need someone to check this car out and make sure it is rust free as the seller states. oh, it's a vw tdi.

This here is a Benz forum buddy. Most cars in NY are rot buckets and he is most likely lying. I got lucky with my W210 because the owner was meticulous like myself. Dealer serviced from day one and then taken under my wing. I don't understand why you just don't buy from Texas or another rust free state?

Quahog 09-02-2014 08:19 PM

from NE? its rusty. move on.

Here we are in New England, drooling over the rust-free cars in the lands of no snow & you want one of these? Surely there is a car in the great state of Texas that would satisfy. I am truly baffled by your request, also 4 hours away from Albany.

pgringo 09-02-2014 08:45 PM

there aren't any light color mkiv jetta tdi wagons with manual in the south and i would trust people here more than at a vw forum.

Quahog 09-02-2014 09:13 PM

say, I wouldn't mind owning a rust-free, light-colored manual TDI. Where was that listing? ;)

pgringo 09-03-2014 03:18 PM

ah dummy me...all i have to do is send the current owner to a shop i choose & have them look it over. duh. i didn't think of it since i would never locally take a car i'm looking at to a shop to have it looked over since i know what i'm looking at. :o

Good luck. We do have some members in that area and this evening when folks get home from work you might connect with someone willing to check it out. If the car is a good deal I'd try to sew up the deal with a contract and deposit pending inspection. I know those vw diesel wagons with stick are very, very, very tough to find new or used.

There are independent services like this available most places..

Lemon Busters types... many will come to your house to make multiple checks on the mechanical and body stuff... at a set price... and they have no dog in the hunt....

hi neighbor!

engatwork 09-03-2014 05:31 PM

I would not purchase a car, site unseen, that comes out of the NE.

I try not to let cars that come in from the northeast come into my shop. You can tell where they came from once you get underneath.
