Harsh ride from one side of rear suspension on wagon. Already changed accumulators

Hello,
This is my first post here. I've read through a bunch of other SLS threads and I haven't been able to find one that quite sounds like the problem I've been having, hopefully I didn't just miss it.

Anyway I've been a w123 guy for..quite a while. I'm on my 4th w123 in about the last or 16 or 17 years. It's a gray market 240TD wagon that I swapped a non-turbo wagon motor from a us spec 79 300TD into along with a 4 speed manual from a 240D. My question is unrelated to the swap though. I've had a harsh ride from the drivers side rear for as long as I've had this wagon. Say the rear driver side goes through a smallish pothole or over a large expansion joint, I get a BONK that sort of reverberates through the car. If the passenger side of the car goes through even a large pot hole it's just smooooth, as you would expect. I've had a wagon with a bad accumulators and I remember it being like driving a clown car the whole back of the wagon bouncing up and down and just generally being almost undrivable. This seems different.

Even though I didn't think it was likely the issue I already replaced both of the accumulators and changed the fluid/filter at the same time. The car does sag when it sits for a bit and lifts right back up when started, so I know that the valve needs to be rebuilt but is rebuilding the valve likely to fix the harsh ride on the drivers side? What are the other potentials causes for a harsh ride? Perhaps the upper hydraulic strut mount itself? Or could the strut have failed internally? It doesn't seem to be leaking externally as it's dry underneath the swing arm. This has been an issue that's been bugging me for a while but I haven't been able to pin down the likely culprit. At this point I'm thinking it's likely the upper shock mount just being worn out and loose and the BONK sound is something like a late suspension response due to play. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue and was able to resolve it before I start buying parts that may or may not actually fix the problem. Thanks in advance for any advice
