Bought a 5 speed turbo 300TD

Uhh..yea.

Got it for a steal, practically got the engine (617.952) and gearbox (711.113, the van box with 0.8:1 5th) with a parts car for free. Very rare, especially in a country that drives on the left.

It has a 3" exhaust, and has W126 front brakes. Has 5 tyres with really good tread too.

Going to get the engine and gearbox swapped into the '78, and then strip the wagon for parts / sell (body is rather rough).

Anyone know how to hook up the power steering up to the SLS pump? Thinking of a bypass valve of sorts so I don't blow the seals in the steering box.

I think you are on your own for the SLS pump hook up to the power steering box. Sounds like it could be a messy outcome!

Seems simple to me, I already have a tank too. Can't find any info on the net whatsoever about what pressure the SLS pump is rated for though

It does seem simple in terms of connectors and pipes but to get it to work might be different.

I can help with the specifications though.

Chapter 32-350 in the FSM (available for "legal" free at www.startekinfo.com)

Min SLS pump pressure at idle (800-1000 rpm) = 130 bar

Max pressure for relief vale = 185 bar

Just a "tad" bit more than the steering pump!

Chapter 32-501 has more information concerning the operation of the SLS system - probably worth a read.

Why not swap all the SLS stuff over to your recipient car? Would really be useful if you ever tow with that car.

Why can't the power steering pump be used for power steering? Is this a left-hand drive vs. right hand drive thing?

You don't want to move to NewZealand. It is in litre. It works out to be about $4.7 per gallon.

Cheers, will have to look into it. Might need a bit more research, I might get away with it if the bypass has big piping

Only reasoning is that I have no use for SLS in the sedan, and I thought I'd make use of the pump. It'd be a shame to take it off if it could be "re-purposed".

Yes, well that is an option as the PS pump is going either way. Have to make room for an belt driven air compressor that side of the engine, possibly a belt driven vacuum pump too...

Didn't realise sedans could have SLS Even though I tow a fair bit, I'd prefer to keep things simple as I know the SLS parts can be pricey to replace
