coolant dripping from front oil pan gasket

can someone tell me the problem on my 83 300sd. appears to be coming straight from gasket.

Its most likely running down from one of the coolant hoses above. There is a small hose that is right by the thermostat that is usually neglected and where I would look.

When I had that problem it turned out to be the water pump.

x2 on the water pump. Happened on my 1985 300SD.

Clean your engine compartment...
turn on the engine for short periods of time and keep checking to see where the actual leak is.

He beat me to it but I'll second - clean the engine bay! It makes it possible to trace the source of the leak and it'll be much more pleasant to fix once identified.

The 1 5/8" (whatever that is in metric) short hose that goes from the t-stat housing down is often overlooked. You can buy the right size fuel filler hose at the big box auto parts stores and that will work fine. It's just a straight length of hose. I'd do that while you're in there. But the highest probability is the water pump as the seals will wear eventually.
