Purging ,was it worth it.

Yesterday I was in my favorite foriegn auto parts dealer and notice the Liquid Moly diesel clean cans.At $7 a can I went ahead and set up the service for the days wrenching.Ive noticed it requires a both fuel filters to changed after service but I do remember replacing my secondary filter a month before. At the end of the service I noticed the remaining liquid in the homemade small gas container ,gatorade jug, the fluid was discolored but not completely ,Im thinking along the lines that the videos Ive seen before were the demonstrators fluid is just completely black is due to just a wash down of the old filter giving them the idea that it was all coming from the fuel injectors. It did seem to start up better but other than road performance not a big change.Ill be doing new injectors soon ,pop pressure is were the injectors tend to be off alot of the time ,this is were I should see the biggest improvement in this old but still performing well 617 powerplant.Over 400k 1983 300cd

I had all kinds of goobers etc in my system (240D) after letting it sit for a while: I started to clean it out via LIQUIMOLY AND IT WORKED.

Then I left town for southern France qnd the cqr will no doubt need a clenout when I get back: BTW many beyootiful diesels and women over here, so it may be a while.

If you are running the Stock type Injector Nozzles they have tiny drilled passages that need to be kept open. If the purge is done periodically to keep them open then it is a benefit.

However, if the passages are solidly plugged I doubt if a Purge is going to clean them.

Just to piggy back on this thread, I'm putting my 300d up for the winter in about two months or 1000 miles. Would it be better to do a purge before or after storage?

Thats interesting to note on the subject of long parkers, the other 300cd I have had on the lawn these past few yrs has been giving me starting issues lately ,I ll go ahead and give it the service next week and report back . The longest parker Ive lately started is an 83 300sd that needs a B2 piston for the trannie installed ,this engine starts after 2 revolutions and idles with a purr ,it sat for 14 months ,cant wait to get it out on the road again.

I found that the diesel purge was extremely helpful. When I got my 83, it had not been run hard for quite some time. I ran it on the freeway for several hours, and when I got it home I did a diesel purge with two bottles of the liquid. I also performed a "two container" purge, with one 'source' container and one 'drain' container...where I could see all the stuff coming out of the return line into a second container, and boy, it was gunked up.

The vehicle ran a lot smoother with less smoke. I then proceeded to run B20 in the tank, eventually working my way up to B100, and everything is clean and clear now, and the car runs smoothly and as well as it can. Oh, I did have to repair the accelerator linkage that was keeping the injection pump from full-output. That was a big deal.

Anyway, I think it worked very well and helped to clear out some glop in the injectors in my experience.

Good luck!

I've done the diesel giant style run the car off the can of diesel purge on 3 different high miled diesels with unknown injector service history. All 3 ran better.

I purged my 87 which had gotten nozzles 5k miles prior and there was zero noticable change.

I personally think its worth the $7.
