How do you like the car? It's funny that you've been in the Mercedes diesel community for so long and yet have never owned a W123 turbodiesel .
I like the car a lot. It's a good fit for me in that it gives me some stuff to work on that makes use of my limited skill set without overwhelming me. My goal is to do any work myself.

Yeah, the closest I came before was a W123 240D....but of course that wasn't turbo.

never having owned a 240, I'd imagine that the added 60cc's and some boost makes a noticeable difference in terms of performance and the relative simplicity of the om617 makes wrenching a little less onerous when compared to later motors.

A 240 compared to a 300 is like a big wheel compared to a real bike.

The real bike is faster and better at most things, but sometimes you just have to do a 180 on those deafening plastic low rear wheels peddling furiously on that low traction big plastic disc. For those times, only a 240 will answer.

The seats look like leather. I do not think MB Tex will ever show crease lines like that. The interior should also smell like leather. If they are indeed leather they are in really good condition for their age. You should get some leather conditioner and treat them, which will help preserve them.

My 85 has an MB Tex interior and my 84 has leather. The cabin of the 84 has a very rich leather smell. I really enjoy it when I get in.

unintentional thread hijack

how much more fun could you have on a big wheel though w/o a trip to the ER?

powerslides, ghost riding, ramps, smashup derby- perfect for the 240

the cool kids had green machines but couldn't wreck 'em with same style

Awesome to see that car having leather seats! You've got something reallllyyyyy nice there! It looks like you need a new butt pad on the driver seat, I would get that installed asap so no springs or anything else pokes through the skin..

Good eye. Yeah, I need to do something. I assume there's a nice write-up out there somewhere as to what to do and how to do it. EDIT: just watched a video....looks pretty involved!
