New Acquisition: 1984 300D

Since I'd never owned an OM617, I thought it was about time. Picked up an 84 300D, Anthracite Grey on Black, 262k miles, overall good condition, for what I think was a reasonable price. I'm sure I'll be pestering JB3 and Quahog for some local advice. Anyway, I'll try to post a pic or two tomorrow.

Someone else mentioned the rare color combo as well...one of the reasons I pulled the trigger.

Wife is fine with the extra car...as long as I sell it after fussing with it for six months or so. I think she's come to the conclusion that messing around with extra cars is more likely to keep me out of trouble than get me into trouble!

My 85 was anthracite on black text with cloth only because I swapped in that interior. I wish I could get that car back. I miss it.

I am curious, is the black interior leather? My hunch is that if someone wanted a black interior they would have ordered it in leather. Sounds like an elegant combination.

And what color is the pin striping?

My 85 300D is Anthracite Gray with MB Tex Palomino interior and the pin striping matches the interior.

I once had an '83 D in Anthracite gray with black interior. Come to think of it, I have had several 'Benzs with weird/rare color combos. My first 'Benz was an '82 CD- Signal red with black interior. I also had an '85 CD that was ALL BLACK. Yes, the interior, exterior, inside the trunk, and even the tires!

Can't wait to see it! If it is leather that would be even sweeter!

Is there a way to tell for certain from the data card whether it's leather?

You can probably tell by sight or feel

usually the leather is damaged vs mbtex which is a timeless material. The Leather does not last near as long unless someone was very particular about its maintenance.

The leather might show stiffness and cracking in areas, especially on the driver seat, especially at that age

Post a pic and we can begin bickering

Washed, waxed, vacuumed, and a full tank of fuel. Here are a couple of pics.

I think it's leather.

Wowza. Nice one. It's a looker.

How do you like the car? It's funny that you've been in the Mercedes diesel community for so long and yet have never owned a W123 turbodiesel .
