Does it smoke in position 2 or position 3? If it smokes in position 2 that means you have a short in your glow plug circuit and the wiring is melting. The load from the short circuit can also cause your starter to turn slowly. If it only smokes in position 3, then its a starter or engine mechanical problem.
oh ya lol. it smokes in position 3 cranking.

It sounds like a high resistance connection at the starter. The source of smoke is probably oil or residue on the connections burning off from the heat generated during cranking.

yup. next thing is to get the starter pulled, and either rebuilt, replaced, or at LEAST tested for load, not just for spin ability.

found the problem.

So today I spent all my day on for this little problem.
I'm a mechanic but sometimes i just cant think right on my own cars. I think this was one of the hardest job i ever done on my own Mercedes lol.
so I bought a started for $69 Durlast (lifetime warranty) and start taking the intake manifold off to inspect, No burned wires or anything. clean good to go.
taking the starter off in this car is PITA. I had to add about 2ft extension on 16mm socket to get the top bolt off of starter.
Anyways I put the new starter and put everything back together including the battery.
Hour later time to start the car and first try SAME SHT , SLOW! TURNED OVER SLOW, at that point i thought the engine been seized and i wasted all this time for no reason. so i took the belt off and turned the engine by hand again, it turned perfectly fine.
while i was standing and looking at the engine thinking what to do, I start touching and turning the pulleys since the belt is not on it.
All of them were fine except the Alternator, the pulley was hard to turn.
third try and this time the engine without the belt and the car started right up!
so the problem is the alternator .
Im going to replace that tomorrow. thanks for you guys help.
