rough start, more blue smoke for 30-45 secs. 81 240d

Just started doing this a week or so ago. Runs fairly rough at idle (initial start) for 30-45 seconds, more blue smoke than usual during that time. Within about 1 minute, back to normal. 2 different tanks of fuel, fairly recent filters

ideas? thanks in advance

Are you certain you'd say the smoke is blue? That's oil, if so, and the issue is probably a more complicated one.

If it's instead GREY smoke that smells like diesel then it's unburnt fuel. In that case it's more likely a few bad glow plugs.

Have you smelled it? Oil smoke from the exhaust is a pretty strong and distinct smell.

you're probably right, more greyish than blue. Didn't think about getting out and smelling, just looking in mirror, will try that tomorrow.
