W123 CCU Buzzing/Rattling

Heard a buzzing/rattling sound coming from the CCU on my 84 300D (I removed it to confirm the sound was actually coming from inside the CCU). At first I thought it might have been some mechanical resonance from the car. But no....I confirmed that it's coming from the CCU itself. It goes away when I disconnect that cable on the left....it also goes away when I rev the engine.

Is there some fan inside the CCU that is going bad? Any thoughts as to how to address....other than getting JamesDean to rebuild the thing?

Or perhaps it's a very rapidly clicking relay?

Not sure if I got your full meaning when I read your post for the first time.

So you have the CCU in hand and have confirmed that it is actually buzzing?

I get a buzzing from that area of dash from time to time, in some cases when the ambient temperature drops suddenly, but more often as a symptom of a vibration from under the hood being transmitted through the dash.

YES, it is coming from INSIDE the CCU. I have confirmed that it is in no way, shape, or form transmitted vibration from somewhere else in the car. I can hold the CCU in my hand (thereby isolating from the car) and make the noise start and stop by connecting/disconnecting the left cable.

I have a 10 second .mov file of the noise but can't attach it. It sounds like a Geiger counter going bonkers!

A forum member listened to the noise and said it's definitely the sound of a relay. So then the question becomes whether it's the CCU itself that's bad or some external electrical factor that's causing the relay to do that.
