Is this worth it?

I ran across this and am thinking of picking it up not to drive but to store for future use should something ever happen to mine which is the same model year but not quite as nice and definitely not dealer maintained.

Worth every penny, I'd say. Especially with that funky Canadian loony money. You better get on your horse and buy it, because now that you "published" this, someone else is on the way....

Do tell me you'll pull that spoiler off if you get it.

I've seen spoilers I've liked on W124s. That's not one of them.

Promise us if you do buy it, that you remove that ricer spoiler. It's a Mercedes, not a Honda Civic.

Only 123000 miles, so you're lucky I'm not closer or I'd buy it without a second thought. I bet at some point that was a US car, doesn't look like a Canadian rust bucket. The garnet red looks really nice. I'd say go for it, you won't regret it.

Looks decent, priced at the higher end but fair for the condition. I think you will find it stays for sale for a long time...nobody in Canada seems to buy any Benz's of a certain vintage anymore unless they are really cheap. Calgary is not a salt belt, cars last a long time out there. When my brother lived there he couldn't even find a place to oil spray his rusty Ontario car, just didn't exist!
If you like those cars seems like a nice example of one, have it looked at carefully just to be sure it is what it is, go over the service history and make sure everything was done (not "declined"). For some reason in the pics the left headlight looks dim, could be the pic itself or angle, otherwise looks very tempting.

I agree the spoiler has to go. I'm just struggling with maybe picking up a 05 cdi but the mileage is 380k kilometres and the price is closer to 10k. But those one owner well maintained cars pop up so rarely this one sure is tempting and now I struggle with paying to park it as we are car plenty full right now.

I wouldn't park it unless in a garage. Tars go down hill and rust when parked. Critters chew on the wiring harness.

Yes I fully realize outside parking is out of the question and I'm not to keen on renting space it seems to command 100 to 150 a month. It would sure make for a great backup car in the event something happens to a daily driver I hate purchasing vechiles when you really need one makes for bad mistakes. My 123 lasted 22 years and I purchased it from a single owner with very little rust. At year 20 I picked up my 124 but had garage space so it sat for 2 years until a hail storm took out the 123. So having something I really like in great condition makes for a good investment it think. By the way I drive the 124 year round without any rust issue at all they changed from salt to some white power a few years back. The 123 had a few issues with rust but nothing like my wife's 210. I should get it hey!

Well 199 kilometers is only 120 thousand miles if true. Not that easy to find. Go over the records carefully and the factory oil change booklet should still be present as it would have expired only reciently if at all.

The car being serviced at a dealer only especially as claimed. Some of them being really anal. It could be pretty much a gem. If you are going to let it sit until needed there are several things that should be done. simple things like new brake fluid unless the dealer did it reciently. The sellers ad is clean enough it may be as advertised.

I suppose without records it maybe worth 4 to 4500 around hear anyways hard to really determine a valve as maybe 2 sell each year. That would be based on condition only and mileage in my mind anyways. So a premium of 1 to 1500 is for pride of ownership and keeping records something to consider. I am liking the idea of the same car so my learning curve to maimtain it would be zero. And a real bonus is I don't need many more tools those can really add up especially for one time use tools. I'm tending to go have a look soon but knowing me I'll be driving it home.

Go over it with a fine tooth comb.

Yeah I noticed that too but I figured a older rich guy who gets it serviced at the dealer what does he really know. Bet when his idiot light comes on telling him a bulb is out he heads straight for a dealer $50 service if it is that cheap.

That is a strange thing in a way I agree. On the other hand some owners do not have a clue or have aged and forgoten things. Before springing that amount for that year I would really check the car out.

If there is anything really not up to scratch I would want to know what it is. I have learnt not to have rose colored glasses when examining an older vehicle or any vehicle in fact. Once purchased any owners problems existing become yours. With the current exchange rate the car is less then 5K American asking I think.

Well when I purchased my 123 the owner had a simple formula to tell him to sell it. Once his repair bills not operating costs such as tires, oil, diesel but service bills all dealer service equaled his initial purchase price then it was time for a new vechile.

That doesn't mean anything. Each w124 I purchased I was told it's leather when it was just plain jane tex. I made the effort to correct each of those idiots, but not the point. Each car was top notch.

Going over it with a fine tooth comb is necessary here, for $6K you're going to need to. I wouldn't pay anything over $4500 for a cream puff w124 diesel.
