I need to do something with my 1991 3.5 liter with bent rodsss. Came across a cl add for 3.0 with tranny for 1000.00 his 3rd asking price. I know some members are selling whole cars for less. This supposedly has 124,000 miles on it with a #14 head which is supposedly been repaired. Need opinions on value or other offers.

Value is difficult to say outside the car. Engine out is easier for you... mechanics inspection needed

The price'd be fair but not like great if the description is accurate. Wich may or may not be.
I've no idea what involves a swap of the engine into a newer vehicle, but chances are you may need a whole bunch of parts from the donor that are not bolted to the engine. The time needed for sourcing them and the cost of parts bought separately may not be insignificant.

Hmm... In pm you asked me what a mechanic would inspect on the engine... I guess, they could inspect chain stretch, and compression pressure... An overall feel for accuracy of the sellers story, perhaps receipts for the work claimed done on the head... Why the work was done and by whom. Warranty info, I find it difficult to fathom why a #14 head would get put back on...

Warranty? A non-running engine is difficult to inspect on site. You could pull the pan & inspect the crank. I would pull it apart to the long block and install new gaskets to stop oil leaks. How well does he document things? I log miles and repair with where I bought the parts and have records going back years (perhaps 30 yrs if I find the old book).

Trans is unknown also.
