Thanx ! .

I believe I PM'd you.....

I'd like the more complete pair , heat shields etc. as this is my daily driver , not a static hobby car .

How far are you from So. Cal. ? .

Might be time for another fun road trip , I love to travel in this old Mercedes .

TIA ,

OHH! completely excited now... Have the wagon scheduled to head to ATL for a full strip and repaint! Looking like magic will happen in a little over a week. Guy doing it has won many awards for his paint jobs....

Can't even begin to say how excited I am...

Got her new shoes today, Michelin Defender 195/70/14 T rated. 90,000 Mile tires. Rides like a dream, and the new tires are a lot quieter than the old Douglas tires I got last time.

Did a walk around of car today so I had video of it before it goes to paint. Shows off the crappy paint job that the previous owner had done...

Finally got around to fixing the hinge, good as new, all I really needed was that missing bolt in the end.

Ordering a new A/C system from Rollguy and a 16x20 parallel condenser from eBay. Will be nice to finally have air in the car.

Taking it over to local shop to have rear axel put in. had it over a year but never seem to have time.

Still looking around locally for someone that can do the Lower control arm business... without that spring compressor it's a no go. I don't want to have to cut up the car to use the aftermarket one.

Never did take car to ATL for repaint... so still on the list. till then, its finding and fixing a few annoying oil leaks I seem to have. hoping its not rear main as that looks to be a huge pita.

Replaced both rear axles this week. Simple job. There is a how too that tells you to remove the rear brakes? did not have to do this to either side and had no issues removing or installing the axles.

Tax returns incoming and a list of new stuff waiting to be done to the car! on that list is-

New radiator and hoses.
Replace turbo (have one on my spare engine that's perfect) current one is showing play in shaft.
replaced all 4 coil springs.
Fix SLS system.
Order a new A/C system from Rollguy and a 16x20 parallel condenser almost did this last year, but held off. doing it for sure this year.
New paint. Interior will wait till next year.
New sunroof seals.
Rebuild antenna
Replace dash/fix plus do all vacuum pods in process.
Order the spring compressor
finally replace the inner control arm bushings I have plus all bushings in rear end that I have.

309,600 miles on clock..... only 400 miles away from 500,000K! Got to get her ready for next 500,000K...

Post W123 Dash Service/Repair

PLEASE let us know in detail how this goes and where you got whatever to replace the cracked dash ! .

Two of my W123's have dashes that are going to need fixing sooner than later.

TIA,

There are a few options for the cracked dash. I can buy a new "reconditioned" one from Germany for 850 from Reinvent the wheel,Mercedes Dashboard Assembly Reconditioned New, Many Colors, W123 or a used one from them in the 3-400 range. A few Taxi dashes have been coming up on eBay, and would be interesting as it gives me extra space to put in a double din setup and start modernizing the car a little. They seem to go for around 250. Of course there are a couple companies in the US that offer full leather wrapping of the dash for about 1000. personally, I will most likely go for a "new" one from germany cause I feel that the used ones, even if perfect, are still ready to start cracking due to their age.

New "Reconditioned" I provided th elink... but here it is again. Mercedes Dashboard Assembly Reconditioned New, Many Colors, W123

Price is 850 shipped. Seems like a fair deal to me and you can choose your color.

Went to paint shop today. Due to the crappy repaint currently on my wagon it's looking like 1000-1200 for the repaint. Macco on Dobbs Rd in Chattanooga with a 5 year warranty. (even the crap paint on my car has held up for the last 6 years so unsure as to why only 5 lol) Again, seems like a fair price. I guess I'll strip car down like it did with that black 83 wagon I had. will give me the chance to correct a few other things as I strip it. Not looking for a show car here, is a 500000K daily driver. I did send a message to my contact in Atlanta, just don't know how the logistics would work. He could do a paint correction after the respray, since Macco doesn't do any wet sanding buffing after the job. Will see. The price does include some light body repair and basically stripping the car to remove all the crap paint. I also notices a few areas where there are tiny spots of rust to deal with, under the gutter on the rear and a second spot starting under the trim of the rear quarter glass. so that will be addressed as well.

Need to also drop the power steering box. guy that did it put my steering wheel on upside down. sigh. this is why I tend to just do everything myself. He didn't know about setting the box to center with the mark inside and holding it in place with a screw while you mount it. when he went to try and Aline car after he was 180 out. (after I corrected the centering of the box) was late and cold at time, so I have been living with it. but time to correct it.

THANX ~

Reconditioned and new are completely different but these are re skinned so maybe worth the $ .

I need to go in there and replace some vacuum actuators anyway, might as well do the job right although the co$t will break my meager budget .

As far as paint goes, look closely at some finished jobs before allowing some random shop to touch your 'Benz .

I got a terrific paint job but *not* the full collision repairs he'd agreed to do and I paid for @ $4,500 (ouch) .

He also used some boob on re assembly and said boob broke Every. Single. Lamp. on the entire car, blah blah blah .

Everyone raves about how nice it looks, I see wrinkles under the front bumper and every time I raise the hood so it's a mixed deal .

Another place did a fantastic job on a silver 300CD so I let them re spray my '80 300CD and they screwed it all up, broke the sun roof , every lamp, etc.

I was so upset I sold that car at a dead loss, the buyer was ecstatic because I'd fixed the Klima II so it worked perfectly, ICE COLD R12 AC even....

Be cautious ! lets us know how the paint comes out .

Talking

Aye, Laddie ;

Therein lies the question, donnit ? .

The damn fool also installed the windshield wipers left for right and you prolly know that each one has a big L or R stamped into it so there's simply no excuse for such folderol .

There was a time when such dishonesty and damage would have resulted in one going to jail and t'other the hospital but I'm old & calmer these dayze .

More's the pity as I have more oldies I'd love to have his beautiful paint applied to but ; screw me once, your fault . screw me twice, MY fault .

One of these days I need to drive the wagon to cars & Coffee or a So. Cal. gathering as it's really quite pretty .
