I tried battle with a raccoon last year. He hit my 2001 E320 front and center at 55 mph. New radiator, straightened condenser, new bumper cover and many other plastic parts. About $3,000.

First , Sorry for your Loss

Second,
How close to (760 ft/s) were you (Making Revolutions Toward) to when the Raccoon-O-Cide occurred ?

I can "See" a Buck or a Large Doe doing that, under normal conditions.

BUT, a Raccoon is just another Feline Type form.

having recently acquired an 84 190D which I am enjoying the heck out of, I can sympathize with your loss.

How does 120C come up quickly, you turn off the engine if you see the temp rising after mowing down a 15+lb animal.

Poor car. 190d's are awesome.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hopefully, it's repairable.

If the raccoons in your area are similar to mine, they are getting to unbelievable record sizes lately. If there were "trophy clubs" for them, records would be breaking weekly! Of course, they are being fed well with all of the deer corn available.

In Texas.... Armadillos are trained to high jump when committing suicide.... so they miss the bumpers and hit the radiators....

Looks like we need a thread on how to brighten up the headlight output on 190's.

Raccoons are actually more closely related to bears. The German name for racoon, Waschbär, translates to washing bear.

I googled out of curiosity when i had one sitting in the top corner of the car port watching me wrench a benz a few months ago.

So John, you hit at Waschbär if that makes you feel any different. Another poor dumb animal had to go wreck a perfectly good benz.

It's back on the road. Pressure test shows no coolant issues... Motor idles a tad rougher now, but drives smoothly.
Pics of the carnage to come...

A friend of mine's son traps for fur pelts. He gets $52 for a raccoon pelt. He does pick up good looking road kill. His mom even stopped once to pick up a fresh one and throw it in the trunk ( gotta love that ). He probably makes enough to buy his college books with road kill dollars.

The BEST method for fixing this is to install Euro headlights. I have Depo Euros installed and they work fantastic. I have the much brighter, but shorter lived bulbs. I wanted them as bright as I possibly can have them without doing a ghetto HID install. Nobody will ever go back to NAM lights after using Euro lights.
