Yeah, Rhode Island and I'm kind of surprised too. In nearly 20 years driving these old beasts, this is the first time I ever saw issues with the fuel and it was actually a fairly cool summer. I don't know, maybe it isn't algae but it doesn't look like rust. I don't drive the car a lot but at the minimum every couple of weeks and most weekends. I dumped some stuff in the tank, seafoam, diesel cetane enhancer (white jug) and am driving it 100 miles today. Plan is to run it down and re-fill at the local truck stop. Ran fine coming into work this morning.

Sounds like a plan - perhaps a filter change is in order sooner rather than later as well?

Afaik algae growth is not temperature dependent but moisture/water dependent. Moisture get in via condensation from changes in ambient temp. Cars seldom driven are more algae prone because the water just accumulates. Startron Biobor etc is your friend

I changed the primary and secondary fuel filters already. The primary that was on it was white plastic that you couldn't see inside. The new one is the more typical clear type. I'll get the Startron stuff at the local boat service place. Plus, the car is going back into daily use as my wife's primary mode until I find her something to replace her Volvo that needs more tlc than it's worth. Only 'till the snow flies though as I don't drive the Mercedes in salted-roads mode.

Really? I had never heard of it as a problem here in Northern Europe until I happened upon a little lesser known website called Mercedes Shop...

...sorry - I don't want to be contrary but I'm not convinced it is not temperature.
