HELP! om603 IP stop lever shaft fell into pump
 

Hello everyone

yesterday I was working around my w124 300D non turbo engine, changed automatic transmission hoses, fixing power steering pump problems etc. Also removed some bolts and small parts for zinc replating, removed air filter housing too and found leak on injection pump stop lever shaft. Then remembered that some time ago I read this PeachPartsWiki: Injection Pump Stop Lever Oil Leak Fix so decided to fix this. Losened lever nut, removed ring clip, washer... and made very silly mistake. Somehow looked that I also need to remove nut that goes around the shaft, so I turned it off, and bad thing happens - stop lever shaft fell down in IP :eek:
What options I have? Remove all rear part of pump? Or maybe stop vacuum element? How this shaft is connected to internals? Any information would help... Thanks :)

Probably need to remove back cover of pump and pull parts out to get to it. I have done this before, not hard but being old and becoming terminally dimwitted can't remember the exact steps.

I sort agree with the other Post. You need to remove something from the Pump to gain access to the Stop Lever. But, I think it is someting on the Top of the Pump that you remove.

Also don't rotate the Engine or the Fuel Injection Pump or you are going to damage the Governor or the Governor Housing.

not magnetic ? possibly some sticky stuff on a stick... after pulling out the fluid.. if any...
I do not know how deep, or how skinny the access is...

Thanks for all!!! :) Yesterday removed it sucessfuly. Not so bad as it looked. Shaft with internal levers isnt so small, so it doesnt fell to the bottom. Biggest job was to remove vacuum stop element, which one bolt was under ADA "mushroom" that there was no space for conventional tools. I was not sure about removing ADA so shortened and modified wrench without success, after that shortened small 10mm 3/8 socket, welded 10mm nut on socket top and turn the bolt out with 10mm wrench. After vacuum element removal found stop lever shaft in that black hole at the engine side and picked with magnetic pickup tool.
Now left to correctly install it back and lets hope I doesnt got diesel run away :)
