Interesting Mercedes Powered Rigs

Hey Gang,

Local CL:
--------------------------------

For sale is 1987 Suzuki Samurai 4X4 PU With 2.2 Mercedes Diesel Motor $3450

Starts and runs great

I do not know MPG since we only use it around farm and woods

Conversion was done somewhere in Reno Nevada area, they used Engine and Tranny out of Mercedes 220D

Also they installed a solid door from TinTop model in the back of the seats, that made it a pick up

The Transfer Case and Differentials are Stock

Compete and road worthy Sami for most part (missing little things here and there)

Solid-Rust free body but do have dents on doors, will need some work

Great hunting rig!!! Very easy to tow it behind your Motor-home, truck or SUV

Willing to trade; Farm or Construction Equipment, Snow mobile/machine, 4x4 quads...

--------------------------------------------

Neat.

There was a Jeep Wrangler with a 617 for sale locally a few weeks ago. I can't find the ad anymore so it probably sold. I'm would be very careful when buying vehicles like this as the quality of the work can vary from a perfect conversion to complete hack jobs.

I hear that, it looks like they utilized spray foam to close the gap in the back of the "cab", but an interesting concept...

I wonder how that moves with the OM615 in it? I imagine they are very light.

There is a group of Samurai enthusiasts that are using a VW Diesel engine, don`t remember which one. maybe the Rabbit Diesel.

I agree there are some really bad hack jobs out there, keep your eye`s open. I was thinking Foam too, or just rusty around the weld tacks and the foam to seal it.

Did some searching and found this link.

ACME ADAPTERS Suzuki Samurai Turbo Diesel

How about one with Mat Tracks??? Cool HUH?

I'll bet those tracks wreak havoc on wheel bearings! There's a LOT of offset and a LOT of weight set way past where the wheel bearings were built to withstand it. Still, it looks like fun.........

A boosted 1.9/1.6 VW seems to be the common swap into these; I've been tempted by ACME's product for awhile... I also have a spare OM617 in the shop that I would love to put into a 2wd Pickup of some sort...

I'm surprised the Suzuki's with the tracks even pack the snow! I wonder what the weight of those rigs is vs the surface area of the tracks!

That guy just foamed in a stock tailgate from a tintop Suzuki -- hack job.

I own several sidekicks, and they are light -- about 2100-2400 lbs and they can get out of thier own way with a little 95hp 1.6l gasser. I can imagine that diesel Samurai would move much quicker than stock -- those are all of 67 hp and 74 ft-lb or torque. The gearing may be a bit to low for the diesel for highway use, however.

I'd love to put a 617 in a wrangler. Went to my local junkyard yesterday and they HD just out out a 240D and is as two other w123's in the waiting area. Manager behind the counter said he's keeping the engines for himself, swapping one into his land rover. Which would explain why they oddly have an entire row of land rovers.

617 ball pattern is up on STD. The two merc dowels are slightly off, but nothing a set of offset pins can't fix.
