Fuel Tank Leak,old 208 1994 Panel Van

MERCEDES Panel Van 208 Fuel Tank Leak
I run a 1994/95 208 Diesel Panel Van and there is a slight fuel leak which seems to come from the top of the tank where there is a small Rubber connecting Hose. Does anyone know if these hoses become pourous and allow fuel to squeeze out hence the leak? When the vehicle is stationery for a while the leak ceases. Any ideas please before I have to try and get a new fuel tank, which for the year of the vehicle is difficult as the Sprinters took over in 1995 in the UK.
