Sportline? parts number help

I am looking at a steering box pulled from a supposed sportline w201. The seller has told me the parts number is 1244610801, which I could not find on MBPartsworld. SPOB said it was a "Mercedes analogy number" for the sportline steering box for a W124 but I wasn't sure that was right. Another website said it was a part for both W124 and W201 cars, but didn't specify if it was a sportline box. My guess is the car it came from is from Europe so that may be what MBPartworld cannot find the parts number.

Does anyone have a better way to search this parts number?

So this is the sportsline box, meaning 1244610801 is the equivalent to 1244606201?

There is only the box housing's part number on the steering box.
The steering box haven't a part number (as whole part) on it.

Identify a steering box only possible by the lock-to-lock number of turns of the steering wheel or by the VIN.

N.B. The sports steering box has color marked pitman arm also.

Question Got the VIN but haven't found much info

The VIN is WDBDA29D1NF987999 but when I put it into the Russian VIN decoder but it didn't give much info at all. Any better ways to check the VIN to see if it is truly Sportline?

Do a turn to turn count as the box might have been changed at some point. ( the loose box turn to turn will likely be larger than installed as hard stops on lower control arms are typically used )

Also, I think that some 124 bodies with sportline spec didn't come with a sport line box, not sure about 201. Check the 124 performance web site as they should have some info.

Unfortunately the car is on ebay so I can't test it myself.

I would highly recommend that you get a free to USA subscription to the Mercedes EPC (Electronic Parts Catalog):

EPC-net Online

This is the official Mercedes-Benz parts catalog, and has an option to look up the datacard for any VIN number (back to 1980 or so). It is an invaluable source when looking for parts and has other misc. info such as the datacards. They ask for your credit card, but this is to verify you are in the US and not for any charges.

Looked up that VIN, and it did not specifically say "Sportline" that I could find, but did say it has the AMG drivers package, sport seats, and AMG steering wheel. This sounds "sporty" to me.

I did decide to do that and was surprised it worked (I had tried signing up several time before with no success) but it was very useful. Told me the option codes and I was able to determine that the car is a Sportsline with the codes 243, 281, 650, and 950. (info found here: 190 2.6 Sportline or no - MBClub UK - Bringing together Mercedes Enthusiasts ).

Bought the steering box for $130, hopefully it is the correct box, all signs pointed to it being the correct one.
