Question alpine 6cd changer copatability

The cd changer in my trunk gave up on my 90 350sdl. CHM 5652. I bought the complete unit for my 91. It has a 5600 changer. swapped and it works fine. What numbers on these are exchangeable. This is a rf unit. Will a 601 changer swap? or does one of you fellas rebuild these. The bad changer cycles through a few cd's and then stops and shows straight lines on the display.

I had the 97 era changer info floating around but can't find it, I'm not sure if is is same as early 90's. The 97 changer was a popular dealer installed and aftermarket unit for Honda, some Chrysler ( and Chrysler imports too ) , and probably other Euro cars.

It isn't a RF ( Radio Frequency ) unit it is hard wired, the later ones used fiber optic for communication and audio.

Someone on the net figured these out and posted info, I can't find it.
