Does it really matter what throwout bearing you use?
I'm about to start the manual swap on my 300TD. I have the newer style 1 piece trans. I ordered a new oe Sachs TO bearing. I installed it and it seemed to go on correctly, but it's different than the old TO bearing I removed. Will it still work? Or should I go order the other style? The trans is out of a '83 240D.
Thanks, Mike

If you ordered the bearing for an 83 240D I think you're covered.. just double check the part number is for the application. I've seen stuff show up as the "correct" part on amazon but it wasn't really right for the application.

Does it fit in the fork nicely / just like the other bearing?
Does it change the position of the fork with respect to the position of the plunger on the slave clutch cylinder?

There is two different Release bearings depending which transmission you have. The early style with the Iron Box trans with the bolt on Aluminum bell housing, and the later style all one piece aluminum box.
One is shorter that the other. think the older one used the longer bearing. Iron Box has the levers pointing down and the later style trans has the levers pointing up. sometimes the parts sites refere to this description. Pelican only shows one bearing and that is for the later style. When we had Fastlane and Allpartsexpress for parts, and Phil was our parts go to guy, it showed two bearings depending on chassis number. I did some searching and some sites list only one for 77 - 83 which is wrong like pelican does. I found this from the Atlanta Dealer CLUTCH. Fits: Mercedes | Mercedes-Benz of South Atlanta RELEASE BEARING. CLUTCH made by Mercedes Benz. #0002506815 Charlie

So the part # 0002506815 is the correct part for the later aluminum transmission?
