617 cruise control

Hello*

Can i fit cruise control unit (tank alike looking ) from mercedes 1976 300D (non turbo) to my 1987 OM617 931 (also non turbo) 3 liter 5cylinder Diesel motor? My motor never came with cruise control. How difficult this would be to add this type of cruise control from model mercedes11 yrs older. Both motors looks identical.

Another question on side of my motor block states 617 931 xxxx xxx*

Is this 931 number important to mention if i order parts or all parts for 617 (non turbo ) are same .

And North American 617A turbo has different parts .Am i understand this correctly?

Thank you for any help

Personally I would install an aftermarket system using the original stalk. Not very expensive and far more accurate and reliable. It has been done. Details should be in the archives.

I have Mercedes G W460 3liter 5speed .

Will it be possible to use oryginal stalk for aftermarket cruise? My stalk is simple : on left turning signals and high beams .On right wipers and washer only .Thank you*

If your combination switch is like the other MBs of that era the combination switch mechanism has a pocket for the cruise switch assembly to fit into. The cruise switch arm extends out of the rubber boot along with the turn signal stalk. It is just bent differently so it extends up and behind the turn signal.

The cruise lever has 4 contacts for the different motions, so it is easy to integrate into an aftermarket controller.

If you want to go retrofit you will need:

The sensor on the back of the speedometer (and your existing speedometer needs the same fitting to accept that sensor).

The amplifier (silver box directly above the brake pedal) and its mounting bracket. There are 2 phillips screws on the amplifier that you will see. Don't mess with those, look straight up and there is a 10 mm bolt. Remove that and the amplifier will drop out in your hand.

The actuator on the engine. Silver box that on a 617 sits front and center beside the valve cover. It says VDO on it. You will also want to get the pedal linkage bits.

The wiring harness from the various components.

There are two threads, one on the Autiovox cs100 aftermarket Cruise Control, and one on the Rostra-Global.

One of these ought to work for you.
