3.5 into a Dodge Dakota
There is a 3.5 motor for sale locally for $1500 with transmission and all parts and accessories. There are lots of Dakota's for sale $1000. Assuming I paid full price. That is still only $2500.
Do you think it would fit in the engine bay? I have a friend with a 3.0 5 cylinder turbo Mercedes engine in a Durango and the fan is close to the radiator and the oil filter is tough to get to but it works good. As a second question could I change the location of the oil filter or change to a different oil filter all together? |

the 3.5L motor is known to have "rodbending" issues, beware purchasing one.
however, 1500 for the entire kit is a deal. the head alone could be worth that to someone with a dead #14... as for relocating, it's possible, just installing a block off plate, and an fittings would work.

The dakota was really designed around the 318 magnum engine, IIRC that engine is shorter than the om603. I know the 6 cyl 4.0 jeep motor doesn't fit in the dak or durango for ****.

The early Dakotas had a shorter engine bay, so used the Magnum V-6 engine. Chrysler designed that engine to just for the Dakota (kludged, chopped off 2 cyl from V-8, vibrated badly). About 3 yrs later, they found room to squeeze the Magnum V-8 engine in the Dakota, so dropped the V-6, using left-overs in RAM Vans for a few years more. Still, the Mercedes engine may not fit even the later ones.
