GROUP BUY - W123 Book - reply by Sunday, Dec 7th

Hi everyone,

There is a group of us over on Benzworld.org discussing doing a group buy of this book for US members. I volunteered to help research and organize the buy, as well as to be the middle-man for the purchase. I wanted to give everyone here the opportunity to join:

w123book.com

It is distributed out of the UK. I contacted the seller about the possibility of a group buy. Their website notes the the stated cost includes shipping to the UK. The seller says the cost to get the book to the US is £35 (approx $55) plus actual shipping. Actual shipping on a single book to the US is high. So, by joining together and buying in a group, we hope to save on shipping costs across all of us buyers. Also, if we get enough buyers, I will see if we can negotiate some sort of discount on a bulk order.

The basics:
  • Let me know if you want to be part of the group buy no later than Sunday, December 7th.
  • On Monday, the 8th, I will request a quote for the total order from the seller. (NOTE - if I determine that savings across a large order is not actually worth the trouble at this point I will reserve the right to cancel the group buy - see terms below for more detail, but rest assured, I will do this and notify everyone before we get to the money changing hands phase)
  • I will then PM everyone in the group buy with their total (book+UK shipping+shipping from me to you).
  • I will collect the money from everyone, acting as the middle-man. A payment deadline will be set.
  • I will then pay the seller, completing the order.
  • We wait...
  • I receive the books in a big ol' box. I will then break it down and send it out to each of those in the group buy. Books will be sent by media mail - slow, but very cheap. Should be between $3 to $5 depending on the weight of the book (I've asked the seller the weight of a single book in advance to help more accurately quote shipping from me to you).

And that's it! I will post further details, terms, etc. in the next post to avoid overloading you with info in one post. Post here, or PM me, if you want to get involved. If you've already replied over on Benzworld you do not need to reply here again.

Thanks,

Nick

Terms & Conditions for group buy members -

I will wait until Sunday, December 7th for any members that want to get in on this to post here and/or PM me. That's ample time for folks to put their name in the hat. After that date this group buy will be closed. I will share a list of the members participating with the whole group of buyers, for transparency.

Any members who find this thread too late and decide they would like to join will be wait-listed. Members on the wait list would be added to the group buy, on a first come basis, in the event that something happens and a group buy participant cannot follow through.

Monday the 8th I'll send the final number to John at w123book.com and he will provide a quote for the total cost of X number of books shipped to me in Tucson, AZ.

I will send the total price (for the books and shipping from the UK to Tucson, AZ - not including individual media mail cost from me to you) to everyone in the group, again for transparency, and will set a deadline for payment to me as the organizer. I will aim for 7 days from the date I receive the quote from the seller.

I will then private message each member on the group buy list with their itemized portion of the total (including estimate media mail shipping from Tucson, AZ to their location in the US) and will provide my PayPal address for payment. Each member will at that time provide their full mailing address. Payments will be made as "gifts" to me to avoid the PayPal transaction fees, as I am acting as the middle-man. The seller will pay the fee on the total amount. Let's not give PayPal needless double fees

I will only complete the order with w123book.com once all payments have been received. If for any reason you need to leave the group buy once you receive the quote I ask you to let me know right away so I can get someone else in, or re-qoute in a timely manner. If payment is not received by the deadline, the group buyer will forfeit their place and, if a wait list exists, the first name on that list will be invited to join and will be expected to pay the total.

In the event that a member cannot or does not pay by the deadline, and there is no wait list, please be aware that I may need to ask for a bit more money from each member to compensate for any change in shipping from the UK due to the order shrinking.

If, after receiving the quote from the seller, it is determined that the group buy savings are NOT substantial enough to warrant proceeding with the group buy I will reserve the right to cancel the group buy. If this happens I will notify all members that expressed interest so they can proceed to order the books individually if that is their desire. Any such cancellation of the group buy will take place before any money changes hands, so no one will have to worry about refunds.

I hope everyone understands why I laid out the above terms. Perhaps it seems like overkill, but it's with the best intentions. I do not want to leave the opportunity for someone to feel taken, hoodwinked, bamboozled, or anything else with this deal. I want everything to be clear in advance and everyone to be happy. If you aren't comfortable with any of the above please do not join the group buy, as I plan to stick by it all.

For those who are unsure about me being the middle-man you can check my 100% feedback on eBay (link in signature). There are also a few members here and on Benzworld who I know would vouch for me.

Thanks! I'm looking forward to getting these books.

Yes, first post. They are just shy of $55 USD + actual shipping.

Actual shipping will depend on quantity of books ordered, per the seller. That's where we hope to find savings. Plus, as mentioned earlier, if we get enough books I will try to negotiate a discount on price for a bulk order.

This is an effort to find out what kind of a deal we can get. If the seller can't help us, well, no harm in trying.

Thanks for asking for clarification on the price.

As of this morning we're up to 23 books.

Here is a direct link to the video about the creation of this book:

By December 7, you say...

As these would be coming from the UK, what are the chances that we'd have these books in hand for Christmas? That helps determine if and how many I'd order.
