Ask the wife. They keep an eye on us usually and are all too aware of our habits. Personally I do the mislaid key thing on occasion myself.

Pain in the posterior when I do usually. I always remember where I put them once they are found as well.

in pocket of blue hoodie I was wearing last time I wrenched on it a couple weeks ago

I usually leave them on driver's seat or in the blue bowl on kitchen table but was getting dark so I cleaned up quick

Hey I lose the keys to my current car all the time.

However, I am pleased to say that I have several sets of keys from assorted other Mercedes and Volvos that I once owned but are now long departed, all sitting in easy reach, 24/7/365, hanging from a wall rack near my front door.

Why? Damned if I can figure it out why I find it impossible to put my "real" car keys there. My pockets, the dog beds, kitchen counter, office desk, assorted jackets... all seem preferable.

in the getting ahead of myself dept: the front end is blocked up, stbd control arm removed to replace bushings & ball joint.

car isn't going anywhere for a while.

leaving keys in car is habit from working in boatyards

There is a reason I leave mine in the ignition...

Figure if someone does get the Mercedes, that's what insurance is for, right? Have to go to a lot to get there though.

I have a set in my left pocket, and a set clipped to my belt keychain... To every car I drive...

Yesterday Jaybob was in my shop, and needed to get in my house, I reached into my pocket, pulled out the spare key set, and then got to the house keys, while my work chain was jingling on the left belt clip, and the drive set was jingling on the right belt clip...

Jay stated "John, you have too many keys"

Of course, the little woman has a spare set, and my brother has a set as well... In case I lose one of the sets I have on me, or I lock them in the car...

It is against the law to leave the keys in the ignition...
in addition to being irresponsible ... you do not want some underage punk being able to take a car on a joy ride due to the ease of starting the car....it could leave you with huge liability both criminal and civil . Lots of case law already extant.

I believe that only applies to public property.

John, lets skip the law for a second...
How would you feel if you facilitated some idiot using your car and they hurt someone in the process ?

and on the civil court side... gross negligence...

So you wear two rings of keys? I have only one key for the Mercedes, maybe two (put somewhere safe). Bet your pockets and belt loops don't last long.

I have a security door, front door, a dog, and then have to open the garage door. So, like Quahog, dog should let me know if someone came in and if she's not home, I have a security system.

But, now with the furniture layout I have, could put the keys in one of the bowls I have. But, it's remembering to put them there. After the concussion that isn't always easy... But, don't need to get in trouble with the law.

Something funny for y'all. I lost my only telephone, my cell. So I couldn't call it and have no one near to call it. Looking everywhere and not finding it. Get on Facebook and send messages. Eventually a friend calls it, and was in the skirt fold of the sofa! Apparently when I had gotten up, it fell down, then kicked under.
