Merry Christmas Parking Lot Hit and Run

My turn to get a gift form Person/s unknown for Christmas.
The local Supermarket claims they have no Video of the area My Car was parked in.

I told My Wife I hoped that the other Car got damaged also and She ask if I wanted revenge? I said I wanted Justice.

Last Year I backed into another Mercedes parked on the Street near a Department Store.
The Owner came by as I was looking at the Car and I was able to exchange Insurance info and so on.
I am parked on the Street but Owner was able to get Video from the Department Store!

When I need Video there is none.

Small luck is that the Tail Light did not get broken.

Wow that was a decent hit. Not even the most clueless driver could fail to know they hit another car.

Sorry for your misfortune.

Thanks for the sympathy.

Now My Car is even more of a Beater then it was before.

How far away is that parking lot from you... ?
You could check regularly ... might be a regular customer there..

Go to the staff.... the ones that gather up carts for sure...
show them the damage... offer a reward for a timely call if someone's car looks like they might fit the culprit's description..

see if any of THEIR paint was left on your car...
take pics up close..
and save pieces of the combo paint pieces..
private parking lot... police probably not going to help..
but good evidence taking and presenting... in small claims court goes well...
most states have a free phone line to give the name and owner IF you have the VIN... usually can be seen through the front windshield...
clue the parking lot workers to that also... so they can get it in case the car leaves before you can get there...

That looks like it may just pop out. No creases showing in the pic.

I vote for white truck / SUV backing out of the parking spot. Backed partly out, turned wheel to left before their front was past your rear. ( See large diameter tire mark )

The dent above the tail light looks like the second impact when they were trying to disengage.

If the store has any vid of the lot, I'd be looking for a white truck / SUV with RF damage driving by. Just because they don't have vid of your car, doesn't mean that other vid is useless.

Carefully pop the dent out before the metal cold sets too long. I am a believer in the quicker it is done the better.

If it was only a grocery store lot and you have the color of the vehicle that hit you. Go street cruising in the normal area that store would service.

If I were a regular customer and had the approximate time it happened. You might ask the store for the names of their card transactions during that period in time with a good explanation of why you want them. I do not know about your area but I have noticed everyone almost pays with a card now including myself for a long time.

That is at least a hundreds of dollars repair in a body shop today. I live in a small area and if I had the card users names. I think the local police would have no difficulty tying a color of the other vehicle with one or more of the names given.

Motor vehicle records are cross referenced pretty easy by the police. Chances are there may not have been all that many transactions in the time period if you are sure it was less than an hour for example.

That is part of the Plan however the the top corner is smashed in a least 1 inch (it does not show up on the pic very well). The area in the Pic with the X is pushed in one inch lower then it used to be.

All I did on it today was remove the Trim.

My Wife came out of the Supermarket and found the Dent. She could see no Cars around that were the same color and did not remember any White Vehicles around Her when She parked.

She came home and told Me what happend and I sent Her back to see if they had Video. They said they have no video but I think they just don't want to bother with it.

This is why I usually park as far as possible from the dense parking spaces.

Yes, it is punishment doled out to those that live in road salt free zones.

If the police officially ask for vid the store might give it up. Look for cameras on the building then ask about specific ones. Sometimes the vid screen is at the front desk, you might be able to look for specific ones.

It also depends on who you asked for vid, you need to find a high level manager / owner not a day manager. If you asked and there was an immediate no, they are probably blowing you off.

Some years my now former lady friend had a similar incident with her small front drive car, her car ended up about 3 ft into the next spot.

Unfortunately I can't get My Wife who was driving the Mercedes to think like that. She mostly does what is convent for Herself.

If I tell My Wife to get a 5 pound Bag of Sugar She is going to grab the First Bag that She sees even if it costs more. She is not going to look down on the bottom Shelf where the Store Brand of Sugar is.

But, in Her defense that particular Parking Lot is crowded most of the time so someone can run into your Car anywhere in the Parking Lot.
