Engine Temp & Climate Control
1983 300SD- 617 engine
Is there an engine temperature sensor that is used by the climate control system? My heater goes into high speed shortly after the car is started, blowing cold air until the engine warms. I thought the climate control was supposed to wait until the engine warms before really working hard to warm the cabin. If there is a sensor for that, where is it? A photo would help.

Yes, there is a cold engine lock switch. It's located next to the EGR tube. Here is a photo:

The sensor is supposed to ensure that the blower won't kick in before coolant temps reach a predetermined temperature (the unmarked, first white line on the temperature gauge).
However, the defrost setting is separate and the blower will start anytime defrost is selected. Just FYI.
