speedometer head unit

I was looking the other day, and saw a speedometer listed for sale. It told it was for a manual transmission. It was for a W123 car. I didn't think that there would be any difference in the speedometer itself, but was wanting to see what I could find out?

The speedometers are geared to the Differentials.

240D has the 3:69 Diff. 77 - 83
300D NA 3:46 77 - 81
300D turbo 3:07 82 - 84
300D Turbo 2:88 85

The 240D manual or Auto Trans uses the same Diff, ratio.
I think some were 85 mph and some used a 100 mph spedo.

There is a part# at the bottom of the spedo face 123 542 xx xx, and that number corresponds to the correct diff for that ratio.

I don`t have the part numbers to give you.

Any 123 spedo will fit all the 123`s. how ever the 81 300TD used an electric one.

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.

80 240D Naturally Exasperated, 4-Spd 388k DD 150mph spedo 3:58 Diff
