Current market for a 1998-99 W210 Diesel?
What is the current market price for a '98-99 W210 Turbo Diesel? I'm looking around on Craigslist and am seeing anywhere between 4K to 5K. I'm looking to pick up another E300 and it's been awhile since then.
Would like to hear from anyone who's bought one recently and what you paid. Happy Holidays |

Paid $5000 for one in nice condition, everything works, very well maintained, 150k miles this past summer. I think if you're willing to spend $5000 you should be able to find something reasonably nice. You can find them for less, but often the mileage will be significantly higher.
The unrealistic E300 sellers have them up in the $8-9000 range. I say unrealistic because, for not a lot more, you could have a nice 05-06 CDI.

Interesting that you're seeing CDI's as low as $7k. What mileage/condition?

I think most seem to be in the $5k range, in decent condition with reasonable mileage. I just saw a 98 with 240k for $3k, that claimed to have a recently overhauled transmission.
I paid more than $5k for my 99 E300 recently, but it's a virtually flawless, one owner (how crazy is that?!) car with not even 80k on it when I purchased it, but the real reason why I bought this example was that it had spent its entire life in Southern CA. When I had it up on a lift looking things over before I bought it, it looked cleaner than many cars I've seen that were only a few years old. Suffice it to say, I'll never worry about body corrosion on mine. |

When I got my 98 last year, I paid $5500 for very nice condition and only 73k miles. But it had some wheel well rust I had to address.

I wish I could find one that cheap . Even a 96-97 with under 250k is still at least $4k, and $7-9k for a 98-99 with anything under 300k. Living in California isn't always that great.

I paid $4000 for a nice 1999 with 216,000 miles on it. It has close to $10,000 in maintenance records from our local indy. Heated leather seats. Made in late 1999. It had religious oil changes , Transmission fluid serviced, glow plugs done twice, mono valve, new radiator, ac switch, fuel lines recently.
It had been in 3 minor wrecks but always fixed professionally with insurance, never totalled. New passenger door. Drives and shifts better than any of them I've had. The ac freon leaked out. Thats the only issue it has now with exception of slightly leaking delivery valves. I feel i got a decent price. These cars still blue book at 7 - 8 K with that mileage. I would totaly pay 3000 for one that had a new transmission and 250000 miles. They must have fixed so much stuff by now. AC compressor , etc. Or it needs a bunch of stuff. But still if engine and tranny and body good, its worth it. The 1999 my wife got for christmas as she sold her beetle tdi. I think it was my favorite mercedes I've ever had.

It was up for dealer auction as it has a couple issues. No heat -- heater valve -- common problem , and squeaky ball joints -- common problem, and a small crack in windshield and scrape on front bumber. The seller actually called me and said i could back out and lowered the price from 8500 plus ttl to 8000 once he noticed the heater didn't blow hot and there was some front end squeaks. He didn't want me upset and he refunded my deposit and said if i don't like it, I can leave it no worries. That sounds like a pretty honest seller. I'm sure i can find something on the lot for my 8000 . Maybe that audi wagon. Its not a bad time to drive a gasser for a little bit. Does anyone know what parktronic is? It has that but i've never heard of it. And does that command for that year work good with blue tooth phones? I believe iphones were out by then . I'm either keeping it or selling it to make a little money. These still go for $11-12,500 easy around here with 145,000 miles. My brother in law has same car, no command i don't think or parktronic and he paid 11,500 in hunstville plus title. But it had good dealer records and one owner dealer trade in. But so far my impression of the little i drove it was it is cool but i like the interior of the W210 better. The W210 is roomier, better head room, and has the window switches in the center which i like, less crap to break and simpler. Who really needs an automatic rear sunshade? But maybe it is cool. Under the hood and the transmission the cdi i hope is a major improvement . Haven't ever dug into one yet and am looking forward to it. I think i've always initially disliked the upgrade, nitpicking about the new cheap stuff. We all do right? The w123 are the best cars ever made right? lol. W210 owners, keep your eyes out. If i do sell it i may take your w210 for a partial trade.

Parktronic is parking assist. Notice the little button looking things (awful description, I know but you know what I'm talking about ) on the impact strips of the front and rear bumper? That is the parking assist. There is a switch somewhere on the center console I believe to turn parktronic on and off. It will beep very annoyingly if you get too close to a curb to alarm you.

The icon for the parktronic is a cross between a captial P and the "wifi" circle segments turned sideways, with a road cone beside it.

I found a 99 E300 TD with 55,000 miles...yes, really! Owned by a lady doctor for the last 11 years. It needed tires, a wiper blade, and only came with one key..I paid $9200...plus 5% sales tax. A new key at the dealer was $188.
I took Amtrak one way and drove her home 660 miles. She got 27 mpg..but I did drive fast.
