Replaced Blower Relay, Defrost and Off Reveresed and one more oddity

Hello,

Happy new year to everyone on PeachParts!

The 'Blower Motor Relay 0008210247' arrived in the mail today, excitedly installed it, plugged the connector in, now that blower really puts out! However there is something odd going on. The Defrost and Off buttons on the climate control are reversed, and if the Defrost button is pushed in (blower is off), and I turn the key to the off position the car will continue to run, no hesitation to even try to shut off. When I push the off button (defrost kicks on, blower goes full blast) the car will shut off after a second.

Where do I go from here?

Thank you!

This is a BOSCH replacement part made in Portugal, had bosch sticker and came in bosch box.

Hi Assault, I'm sure there's a heavy in here that can weigh in better than me, but if your climate control is the ACCII servo type (like my 79 300TD and my pals 79 SD), I'd check all the vacuum lines leading to the center climate control console inside the dash, through the firewall up to the servo itself, and even the little rubber lines right inside the top cover of the servo.

There are lots of them and they can easily get broken, switched around, unplugged, etc... I would not expect the car shutting down to be electrical in any way...

I don't know the back story here, sorry if this is redundant / useless info.

I unplugged the connector to the relay, and the car shuts off like normal now. Of course the fan no longer works.

Is it possible its a faulty relay?

The shutoff function is purely vacuum on the w116. There is a little valve that is attached to the steering lock mechanism, and reacts to movement of the ignition tumbler, that is in turn connected to the actual shutoff valve on the injection pump. There is no electrical connection involved.

The only possible explanation would be, that having the blower relay in place is supplying power to something that is bleeding off vacuum and thus preventing the shutoff valve from working. The blower itself has no vacuum connection.

I suggest you get hold of a wiring diagram, find the blower relay and check.
