1996 E300d sputters won't start

Hi guys I replaced sov and fuel lines now the car just sputters. Will the car start with the manifold off? I found bare wires going to the sov plug, would this stop the car from starting? Will the car start with the plug not connected? I put a electric pump in the line just to pump the fuel up its pumping it but no start. My driveway is on a incline so it takes a lot to get the fuel up thats why I used a pump. I dont know where to go from here? Any help would be appreciate.... Thanks Greg

It will run without intake manifold installed. You will need to loosen the lines at the injectors and when you get about 4 or 5 of them delivering fuel, snug em down and it should start.

Won't start with the SOV electrical plug disconnected (valve won't open = no fuel).

96 e300d not starting still

Hi Guys I open the lines a the injector cranked no fuel. I used the electric pump to bring up the fuel no start . I notice at the injection pump fuel and air bubbles were coming out of the Injection pump nozzles (3) at the base ( air leak ) o- rings - seals needed ?? Is this the problem ?? If so is there anything I need to know about this job? Thanks for the help . Greg

You said you R&R'd the fuel lines? White horseshoe clips are spreaders used for removal only, should be loose and floppy when line is properly installed.

Review the fuel path, crank engine, note where air first appears, look for bad oring/connection prior to that point, fix it, crank again, see if air appears anywhere else, fix that too then crank to start.

Did you replace the pre-filter too? Replace/reinstall the ~3cm oring tucked up under the rim of the pre-filter?

Note that every time you open the fuel system (install/remove your electric pump) you start over trying to pull fuel up to the IP to prime the system. I'd stop doing that.
