Cool Finally: Pictures of the Sportline LE, replacement for my 190D

Sorry for the wait. I was in Florida for the Orange Bowl playing in Tech's band. Awesome game. Then it has rained almost everyday since I came back.
I have compiled some images taken by me, my friend, or the guy I bought it from. More information can be found on any of the following threads:

Guess the replacement for my 190D!

Driver's seat needs some attention from an upholsterer.

Faux carbon fiber trim was completely destroyed around shifter so custom black piece was made, needs to be replaced, hopefully I can find a MSE at Tech who can work with the real stuff.

It and the 300SD parts car. You can sorta see the massive E420 caliper crammed in the 15 inch rim. Reminder: change brake fluid and get ceramic pads.

It and the 190D

Also the front of the 77 240D and my friend's Saturn.

It and our mechanic's BMW, he stopped by to talk to my dad about the Sprinter which had experienced many setbacks in the shop and was going to be ready on Friday but the Dodge dealer sent the wrong valve cover gasket so it won't be ready until they send him the right one. He loved the Sportline and offered to help diagnose the exhaust issues as well as lend us tools for certain work, free of charge. Before, he and I worked on the 190D's HVAC and brakes using his fluids and tools. He also spent 2 hours getting my part's 190E running and checked the compression (which he described as "new engine" reading as though it has 210K on it) one day without me asking him to because he was tired of working on someone's Porsche project at his shop.

Bought a new jack to work on the 190D and other cars, won't fit under the Sportline with the cradle on it, also the car won't get up into the garage without scrapping so we didn't even try. We are used to the poor lighting and poor weather.

Working on the sparkplugs . Took off the distributor and cleaned it and the rotor was in good shape but I had picked up another distributor and rotor (and tan sportline passenger seat) at the pick a part earlier in the day. We then proceeded to try and change the belt which was a pain in the but then stripped the tensioner adjustment because we tried doing this without reading any sort of instructions Also closed the hood when the hood cable was not attached all of the way so gotta deal with that later on
The 2.6 is much much much harder to do work on the front versus the 2.5 NA. Diesel - 1 Gasser - 0

Checking out the exhaust after starting it up with new plugs. Discovered the catalytic converter is leaking as is the pipe between the muffler and the resonator. I also have a fuel leak to track down, maybe some vacuum stuff too. Fun stuff.

I had bought the metal links from a 300TE at the yards but found out last night that the PO had also converted the sway bar links to metal links already. That guy was awesome. You can also see the adjustable camber arm. Shocks all around look old but seem to still be good.

Well that is it for now. I think I shall try to keep the forums up to date on this car. One thing I don't have picture of but I have done is replace the trunk seal. The old one was leaking so I had my friend grab one off of the Sportline we had been picking over the past few visits to the yard. Wasn't perfect but at $6, I figured why not.

Looks as if some of my links died, I'll have to fix that.

Edit: Back in business!

Fair weather with daylight is always the best but I am used to working in bad weather by now. I changed the steering knuckles on the 190D at night when it was high 30s and raining. It seems as if I can only do work on these cars when the weather is miserable or the sun is down or both.

Are those adjustable arms squeaking? The 190rev guys have reported squeaks. I am probably going to get them anyways.

I haven't heard any squeaks but haven't really been listening for them. The interior of the car is really quiet at idle (not like that diesel lol) and loud when it revs because of lack of hood pad, bad motor mounts, and a hole in the exhaust pipe between the resonator and muffler so I probably wouldn't be able to hear it anyway. I'd suspect there could be some squeaking in a set up like this but probably could be remedied with plenty of grease. The back end of my 190D was noticeably squeaky when it hadn't rained for a while and it wasn't humid but it was a stock setup and probably needed to be greased anyway.

So I need to replace the belt tensioner adjustment rod/nut and I am trying to do that this weekend. I need to remove the fan clutch to do this according to this: m103 Tensioner, tensioner rod/nut replacement - Mercedes-Benz Forum

The previous owner sent me the hardback Haynes manual for all of the W201s expect the Cosworths and Evos. Nice book, lots of good info. It shows how to remove the fan clutch with a homemade tool. I am hoping I won't have to remove it because it will still be a PITA, but it is at least a nice resource.

This job doesn't sound too great overall honestly. I have to drain the radiator and remove it to have enough space to work, and some of the other stuff sounds difficult to do, plus this shoulder bolt to the y bracket may need an o-ring which I won't have.

I wonder how much of a pain in the REAR... installing a OM603 in there would be...

I bet the 103 has a short water pump, or something else to fit the extra cylinder in the car...

The water pump is a really nice design, costs way more than other ones for these old Mercedes but the pump and housing are together instead of separate parts.

Of course also the radiator is pushed forward, but you still have only just enough room to put your hand down there and get it stuck.
