PWM Injection pump

There's a thread discussing the last mechanical-only injection pump for the 300D series...my question is the opposite. What year did injection pump control switch from mechanical to PWM? And will that injection pump work (plumb to the injectors and provide similar fuel delivery rates) in my W123 300D?

If the mounting pad is even the same, you would have to get a pump from an OM605 which was never offered in a car on this side of the pond.

Maybe 1996 vintage?

That's what I had initially thought (there isn't really one that works well). There's a bunch of smart people here, so I figured I'd ask just to make sure.

Thanks!

The easiest swap is to put the electronic M pump from the OM606 onto the OM603. There's really no advantage as the pumps are identical from the modulator forward.

Only reason to put the electronic pump on there is for the novelty or challenge of it.

I'm trying to replace some of the mechanical/vacuum things with modern equivalents...mostly because I enjoy painful electrical challenges. Even setting the idle via PWM would be helpful, which I believe appeared in the later W124 models (for EGR reasons originally, I think).
