You are right—I've not seen any discussion of this problem. Do you have or can you get access to an OBD-II code reader? Your car is just sufficiently electronic that the airbag deployment may be preventing the car from starting. A code reading may give some indication. Perhaps all that is needed is to reset the code; it's also possible that the airbag trigger (should be mounted on the transmission tunnel) is the problem. Both the airbag and the trigger must be replaced after deployment or so I have read. Hope you are no more damaged than a split lip.
Jeremy

Interesting that I am helping a friend with same car that the owner hit a deer in and now the car won't start. Get nothing when the key is turned. I did find the F4 fuse blown on the K40 relay. Still working through this one.

thanks Jim and Jeremy I will look into the fuse on the k40 relay thanks for the help and a place to start I have looked all over Google and other websites and have not found any help on this issue and yes Jeremy other than a split lip and a broken heart everything is OK I am debating on sending her to scrap the hood lights and fenders are in tact but the lower rad support rad fans are toast I'll put some pics up later

A shame to scrap the car if it is otherwise good but front-end repairs are surprisingly expensive. For example—
In 2010 my wife in our '96 E300D was hit by a deer that jumped in front of her; the car was doing about 45 MPH and the deer a little slower. It was one of the small Colombian Black-tailed Deer (commonly called "mule deer" here in northern California) but still did a lot of damage to the front end—hood, 1 fender, radiator, 1 headlight, etc. Fortunately our comprehensive covered all of it after some effort on my part to make sure the insurance adjuster was aware of the car's condition, all of the work that had been done to it over the years, etc. As usual in such cases, work was done that I would not have done, for example, the radiator was replaced even though it had only a broken upper support bracket—I would have epoxied it and called it "good enough." The final cost to our insurance was almost $8,000. Today, almost 5 years later, that accident would probably total our car too. Jeremy

I was able to straighten my 210s lower radiator support after clipping a curb stop by using the scissors jack from my Honda (my son just happened to be home that weekend...)
It was a perfect fit between the subframe and the radiator support. If it was me, I would go on EPC and see if the gas and Diesel 210s use the same radiator and electric fan assembly. In fact the fans may even cross over to its little brother the 202. (The engine fan is definitely different.) Then go to the junk yard there are many gas 210/202s there at least the ones I frequent. While you are there look in the trunk of the Honda, Toyota, or Nissan that is next to the car you are picking and grab the scissors jack assuming you don't have access to one already.

I would check batt voltage first, the 15 amp fuse on top of the K40 relay second, and if it both of those check out have the SRS codes registering airbag deployment reset third. A lil OBDII scanner won't register or reset codes those on those modules.
If the airbag went off the seatbelt tensioner probably did too? Jeremy - My 99 was totaled while I was on vacation by a mechanic who tried cleaning up the casting of the head around GP #6 so that his extractor socket would seat better on a GP that I couldn't get out. I told him to send it off to a machine shop, he didn't listen. He found a thin spot in the head; I saw it and he really didn't do much grinding, more clean-up than anything. New $3k head and labor on and off was enough to total mine with similar miles as yours and it was a few years newer too. These cars are getting old, doesn't take much at all to total one.

Maybe it just needs a new airbag. I've got a brown steering wheel airbag from a 1996 e320. Have a whole 96 e320 parts car that may have many parts you need. If you can't find anything local pm me. I'll give you a good deal.

Seriously be careful repairing airbag systems. You need to find right procedure and do it by book cause it can be dangerous. A Mercedes scanner can probably tell what to do. I'll check the wis disc I just got if I can figure out how to use the darn thing.
