Need Help to determine engine rotation

I need to know which way the motor revolves, and which way it turns relative to its orientation. Haynes has me confused as much as them. I thought the left side of the vehicle is the drivers side, but does that also include engine rotation?

Is this a dumb question?

my diesel rotates clockwise when I'm standing infront of the car and facing it. What makes sense when you look at the fan blades? Which way would they have to rotate to pull air through the rad.

That's good. Luckily when tightening fan bolts that's the way it turned.

Thanks. Problem solved.

What makes sense when you look at the fan blades?

Years ago, that was true, but not always today with the advent of reverse-rotation fans and water pumps.

Generally speaking, engines turn CCW when looking at the PTO end of the crankshaft. The exceptions are chain saws, and paired aircraft and marine engines. I've also seen a Wisconsin Robin engine used on brick saws that was a reverse-rotation engine.

Some basic info like he was questioning is very difficult or impossible to find in a lot of car books like Haynes Manuals etc. It's pretty important when servicing engines & working on them.

I think the first Honda automobile... a 600 I think.... imported into the US and the Corvair engines rotated the ' wrong ' way when viewed from the pto end.
