Exclamation Update on ignition issues

Heres an update on my ignition issuses. I need help with this so I can drive the car home tonight
I got a new steering lock, a new key tumbler with a dummy key in it and no I have not removed it yet, 2 new keys coded to the car from factory, a new black cone.
When I went to reassemble the steering lock I noticed the switch has key ways on so it gets installed correctly, if I am wrong tell me the proper way to install the switch.
Do I need to install the steering lock in the car before I install the tumbler with the dummy key in it or can I install the tumbler in the steering lock on the bench.
I also noticed without the tumbler installed it doesnt have any kind of spring action to return it from the start position to the run position
