What do you mean by "lubricate?"
The contacts should be clean. With the black cap loose, and separated cap from circuit board, push the circuit board assembly onto the base with the engine running. Do you get any tach display? If not, the board is probably bad. Some people have removed the white potting materials; and, resoldered the board successfully. I tried this once; but, found it impossible to get all of the white stuff off. Besides, my board had cracked. For $75, you can get a new amplifier assembly complete with the black cover.

Hi guys,
I did all the same things, too, including resoldering all the connections in the amplifier. NOthing helped. I did find this though. the rubber on the 3 wires that all run to the engine block had disintegrated. Anyone considered replacing these wires or cleaning/fixing the sensor? Still hoping for the miracle cure, Paul |

yeah I tried just pressing it down with the engine on. I got tach readout for less than a minute and it went away. Someone posted a while ago that putting some lubricant on the female end of the connector cures his problem so thats why i tried that. I'll check the wires and then order a new unit.

I agree about the EURO headlights. I've been on the look out for a good deal on some of those for a while. I was thinking about going with some 18s. I found a great deal for rims and tires for 1000$. What do the 15 hole 15"s you mentioden look like?

I thought those were the wheels. Those look nice too but I wanted something with a bigger diameter. The 18s im looking at are very tastefull. They aren't chrome or anything and they're pretty conservative. I'll post a pic if you want.

I once saw a midnight blue 280SE with the Euro headlights, bumpers, etc. It had the AMG bodykit and the newer style 17" AMG monoblock II's. I told myself that I gotta have one of those... :p
This is my drool item of the week... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1824268315 If that was mine, the US headlights would've been long gone. The interior is unbelivably clean! Look at the leather seats! I'm not a big fan of the old style AMG wheels either. However the body kit looks good. |
