OM606 Oil Pan Removal possible IN CAR??

Is this possible? This video shows a good shot at around 2:00 for those who don't have a w124 powered by a 606. My guess is the 603 is probably similar.

I'd really like to tackle the rod bearings without the headache of removing the engine if possible.

AFAIK, the engine has to be lifted so far up to remove the oil pan that the procedure is called "removing the engine and transmission as a unit."

thanks! So it sounds like the only real way to do it is to pull the drive train. Sounds like a 20+ hour project to change the bearings.

Cannot see the OM606 is any different from the OM603. Remove the stability bar, remove the 2 engine mount bolts, undo 30+ oil pan bolts, loosen the tranny oil lines, lift the engine as high as you could and the oil pan will slide out. However, you can pull the whole drive train if you wanted to but I would at least try the above the first.

Do you mean the cross member is in the way? BTDT myself on a number of cars. Do what you think is fit.

It is possible to take the pan out without taking out the engine/trans. I had to replace my pan after hitting a curb and cracking it during a huge thunderstorm at night, with partly flooded roads several years ago. My fault. My indy did the job, not me.

Thanks for the confirmation Chris. It looks a little scary with the cross member. I definitely don't want to have to pull apart the grill, radiator, etc if I don't have to.
