Some folks swear by veg oil conversions, some swear at 'em.
List your location, perhaps someone nearby can help in person.
One of the bigger issues with this car is the HVAC system, by this time it's worn out and usually doesn't operate properly, a pain to get it right.
How far did you drive it home? Seems it's well if you didn't experience any issues.
