The prevalence of 123s and 126s in the junk yards is still pretty good, although nothing like a few years ago. If you feel you need a pan with the nipple, try there. And make sure you get both drain tubes because that's the only possible point of interference. Be aware you need to raise the engine to get the pan off.

Yep, it's the trip to the yard, and the effort to pull pan that I'm trying to dodge....worst case, that's what I'll do. Years ago, the yards were flooded with w123's and Volvo 240's.

Just went to a local PnP last weekend...there wasn't a single w123.

I may have found a pan from a friend of a friend....fingers crossed it'll "pan" out...pun intended, I guess.

Josh doesn't want to continue until he has a pan with nipple.....it's just too risky to roll the dice and find out later, they won't work.

I have my air cleaner drain tube handy...though I'll plan on replacing mine wiht a simple hose and clamp.

I'm not sure I understand the "risk" part of the equation all that well in this case. He's got pictures, measurements and a pan with the most critical part of the project i.e. the diameter, depth and profile of the pan insert. The only question is clearance to the nipple/tube from the -10 hose. He needs to get a prototype made before going into production anyway, so the only thing at risk is one additional prototype iteration in order for someone to insert the adapter with a -10 hose to check clearances...but that's just me. I'm obviously missing something.

Maybe it'll come to that....it isn't my decision.

Josh is very thorough, and is trying to be cautious with this move. I'm sure he just wants every assurance that he's made his own measurements, and is confident in fitment before he takes it to prototype/production.

I'm sure we'll find our answer/solution...it may just take a bit more time, to hunt down the other style pan.

My newest and youngest local Volvo 240 friend, has a Mercedes W123 friend! He is all into his diesels.

Going to meet him, this afternoon, for a pint, and to get the proper oil pan.

Read through this thread again...then tell me what you mean by "Cali" car. The dilema was with the one year only, '85 Cali cars, which lack the air cleaner drain nipple.

We are designing this to work with ALL Other pans, those that have a Air Cleaner Oil Drain. That said, it should fit the '85 Cali car, without nipple...but the focus is on having a product that works WITH it.

Any update on this project? I'm kind of interested in the final design.
