Leaking injector, 300SDL

I have a leaking injector(#2) where the two injector parts screw together. Can I try to tighten the halves by tightening the top halve while the injector is still in the engine block. I would first loosen the fuel line. Any down side to try this before pulling the injector?

I strongly recommend attempting to get a wrench on both halves before attempting to tighten it up.

first though, I would verify it is leaking, and not just the return lines. sometimes it's hard to tell.

if you are sure it's the halves, be GENTLE with it! only tighten it SLIGHTLY. if it does not seal up, the body needs to be lapped for flatness, and reinstalled. this will require a new heat shield.

I would remove the injector before doing this.

If you remove the Injector look for a hariline crack on the lower half. It seldom happens but looking is easy.

Tightened the injector while still in the head, top half maybe moved 1/16 of an inch. About 90+ percent of the leak stopped. I can live with that. So far so good after about 2 months driving. Best thing is there is no diesel fuel odor.

I think unscrewing a Bosch injector from the head is fundamental..(outside on the bench).Once there, all can can fully clean and or rebuild the injector! WARNING: India made rebuild parts....are inferior...really terrible...really.....bad...but today...there are no choices...Bosch no longer make them, and the aftermarket India-made....are worse than if you just clean and replace!
