My W124 has gotten progressively worse in this regard, its pretty squirrelly, very sensitive to changes in steering input and wind really upsets it. I had looked it over before and found nothing obvious and decided to keep driving and finally the problem gave me a visual indication. I saw it when parked on a slight incline Standing parallel to the body, looking down flush with the rim, there is a significant difference in rear toe angle between the rear wheels. I haven't looked at whats failed precisely yet but I do know the hub bearings are fine. Its something in the rear control arm bushings.
Might try parking on an incline in both directions and checking the rear toe angle for discrepancies.

It could also be a rusted A arm. They'll get so weak that the rear wheel leans in and out pretty readily. At that point they are on the verge of failure. To check grap the wheel and try to push it in and out. It shouldn't move much.
