Almost done!

I went to the body shop the other day and they had the priming done ready for paint.

I went there today to remove the cladding and rear bumper so they could paint them as well, and they had all the white done.

They also got the color on the front bumper and fender cladding. I decided to have all the cladding and rear bumper painted because it looked so much different (better) than the existing finish on the cladding and bumper. There was also a hole in the rear bumper, so that is being repaired as well.
They are going to color sand and polish everything, and I should have the car sometime next week to put back together.

Time to put it back together!

I went to pick up the car yesterday. They finished the painting:

They polished the car (new and old paint), and it looks awesome! It is hard to tell from the photos, but it is a fine job. Here it is ready to put back together:

Since the trim looks so nice, I am going to have them paint the rims the same grey color. It will only cost me an extra $150, and I think it will be well worth it.

Almost done

I got the car put back together today. The last thing I did was the A/C condenser, radiator and hoses etc. I put water in the upper hose (I did not want to put in my G05 coolant if it had a leak), and water just poured out at the water pump housing. I purchased a used one from a member here, and it was a different part number. It looked the same, so I installed it. I looked down, and noticed a hole that the water was pouring out of. It seems that the housing had a sensor hole that my car did not have or need. No problem, I assumed the thread was for a standard MB sensor, so I grabbed one from a parts engine and installed it:

After putting water in again, it started dripping this time. I thought I might have ruined the gasket, so I removed all the parts to gain access to the housing to remove it. What I found was another variation in the housing that caused another leak. The hole is just to the right of the mounting bolt hole:

The hole travels through a passage that connects to a hole that my engine does not have (center hole of the three, you can see the passage):

I decided to tap the hole:

and then screw in a soft bolt sealed with silicone, and grind it off:

Tomorrow after my gasket arrives, I will put it back together and hope it doesn't leak!

Yea! It Is Finished!!!!

I got the car all put back together, A/C recharged, Cleaned up and Insured!!!!

Engine bay shot with new all aluminum radiator, fan and clutch, water pump, condenser fan shroud, cooling fan shroud, receiver/drier, G05 coolant, and much more

I still need to paint the wheels, but I need to get the body shop paid off first. The wheels will be sprayed the same grey color as the cladding and bumpers. I am going out to celebrate tonight!

Nice to see. I'm almost done with mine as well. I had to pound on my license plate quite a bit to make it flat again, how about you?

New plates in CA are about $25.
Personal plates cost $40 a year, unless you want something more fancy.
I think the car deserve it.

I still have not done that, I just bolted it on. I also need to get a nice frame. Without a frame, my local car wash likes to grab and bend these cheap CA plates.....Rich

They are just there for looks, as the rubber blades are gone/almost gone. I have them disconnected electrically as well. If and or when I find new blades, I will put them on correctly. I am also thinking about painting them when I do the wheels....Rich

I'm thinking a pile of old parts dumped in / blocking the driveway of the other driver would be a good end to the project. . .

When your State goes to the new cheaper plastic plates, they then shear and shatter. Nothing to pound out. Not without shattering them that is.
