I got in a crash with my 350SDL today

A person in a Ford pulled out in front of me today. I applied the brakes with both feet preparing to stop, but I felt as if the brakes didn't work. I assume the ABS was working, but it seems that I probably would have been able to stop if the ABS did not hinder my application of the brakes. There was no skid marks whatsoever. Other than a little sore throat from the passenger air bag dust, I am fine.

Just the other day I was thinking I should put full coverage on the car, but I have five cars on the insurance now, and was going to wait until I sold one (listed on CL now). Maybe that would not make a difference anyway, as this accident was not at all my fault. We shall see how it goes, as I am going to talk with my insurance today and show the agent the photos. I will get the police report next week....Rich

Wow too many crashes around here, glad you're OK. Its this type of ambiguous situation I have a dashcam for. I should add a second to the back window.

Glad you are okay.

As long as you have state minimum coverage, if you are not at fault, your level of coverage should not have anything to do with your ability to get appropriately compensated for the loss.

After talking with my insurance claim dept., that seems to be correct, and that my not having full coverage is a moot point.

It is only a moot point if the other party admits FULL liability. I hope it is the case here.

Bummer man, idk about ABS though supposedly it's better? Sometimes you just want to lock em up.

You didn't feel it "pulsing" at the time?

If the other insurance doesn't have sufficient coverage yours may need under insured coverage though...

It is hard to explain, but It felt like the car had very little braking power compared to my 123 (or even my 126 without ABS).

Sorry to read, Rich.

Seems to depend on the emergency braking action you applied is what I've experienced, with these types of stops. They do seem to vary.

The ABS on my 350SDL is disconnected. A couple of years ago it started pulsing about every other gentle stop, so I unplugged the electrical connection on the module under the hood, planning to fix it when I got around to it. Well....I've never gotten around to it. Maybe not so bad of a thing.

And I'm also glad that you are ok. That's the most important thing.

You may want to have this thread deleted. Should the other drivers insurance co find this they may have reason to contest that their client was at fault, due to you questioning the brakes in public.

I was thinking the same thing. It sucks to think we have to fear speaking freely on a discussion board in case an insurance company uses it against us.

I've always had great insurance companies apparently. Farm Bureau. My wife wrecked our 2002 Jetta. Totalled it . We had full coverage. They gave me 10500 for it and i bought it back for 2250. Took like 30 minutes. She rearended someone and they faked a neck injury and our insurance company gave her 30,000. That was a 1998 Jetta.Totalled the jetta and we didn't have full coverage.

Then she wrecked her new beetle but it was driveable, just cosmetic plastic such. She had full coverage. We were NOT going to make a claim but they sent us a letter saying they were dropping us from home owners and auto. so we made a claim and got 2750 cash and kept it. Lol. Beware if you ever drive in this area.
