722.6 PROBLEM

1997 E300D. I have just changed my transmission bushing and conductor plate. I also checked for wicking at the transmission control module but did no find any. I did not measure the transmission fluid when it was drained, as it was overfilled ( mentioned in another post). Also did not drain the torque converter as I had changed fluid only 10k miles before. I began by filling small amounts after 1 litre started the engine and ran it through the gears. I continued to add fluid to get it up to the lower 25C mark where it now at. As I go through the gears now with engine running I have no FORWARD OR REVERSE GEARS. I did when I first ran it through the gears when I first added NEW fluid. What happened ?? Can any one advise.

THANKS rodm

1) Check the shifter bushing.

2) Did you clear the original codes? They are stored, changing parts doesn't make them disappear....don't bother checking with a $100 OBDII scanner.

After draining fluid, if not draining torque converter, 5 litres is about right. You just dump in 4 litres then start car and move it through the gears and check it and top it off. How many liter did you put in?. If you only put in one liter and then started it and worked it through the gears you basically ran it 4 litres low on fluid. But hopefully just a short time didn't hurt.

Got it solved. It was low on fluid. I did only add 1 litre before starting it and running it through the gears. It was only registering just on the tip of the dipstick tool. After adding another 2 litres it started to feel like the car would easily move in any gear. NOW after a 20 mile run on the freeway it shifts smoothly....I had the CEL cleared and it did not come back on. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU... THIS IS A GREAT SITE.
