Until others have a chance to take some pictures, I found a few online

60% split side folded down

40% split side folded down with bottom cushion removed & passenger seat folded flat

Grocery bags would work too!

That's just real neat!

A camper, or a Mother In Law wing, or, for kids to rest, or a cat litter box back there, or, whatever! Reminds me of the Business Man's Coupe two-door built in the early '40s. They could double as overnight billeting for the road-weary traveler on business, vacation, or even a little hanky-panky! Heh! ;)

I really like how the passenger-side front bucket seat is able to be laid flat forward!

Not sure front seat can be folded flat in US 2005-6 versions of the W211.

Bi-Xenon active headlights video

US vehicles do not have the fog light cornering feature I believe but video shows what Merceds/Hella were thinking about....

The '05 my friend bought has cornering headlights. Not sure if it has the different modes to add/remove light but they sure do work nicely.

Agree some options can be failure-prone in the long run. The powered closer on the trunk in mine doesn't work from the trunk button but does from the driver's door. I need to track down.....think it is electrical connection running through arm of trunk that becomes separated. The Bi Xenon headlights can be expensive to service and are expensive to replace.

In order of preference: Sunroof (in previous MBs, only my 1976 300D didn't have one...I really like a sunroof in a Mercedes), dynamic seats, Bi-Xenon head lights (safety feature really), Leather, HK Stereo, Fold down seats, parktronic, heated seats (my wife would rank these higher in order), cooled/ventilated seats (no personal experience with these) and trunk power closer.

Caveat on sunroof, if you are really tall, the absence of a sunroof can be a good thing you get additional head room.

Finally, low optioned CDIs.....the options only make up a very small part of what makes these vehicles nice to own and drive. Even a vehicle without many options is still a very nice vehicle to operate!

Respectable townships have ordinances against sleeping in a car.
its illegal.

My car has the fancy headlights too but I don't think the active curve lighting is enabled

It would be awesome if my passenger seat folded flat, would make trips to the lumber yard nice.

My data

06 Everest Green Grey Interior ( pebble??) 164k miles
$9500 (bit more due to bank financing and tax, tag, title fees)

Options
Command/NAV
Heated seats
Split and folding rear seats ( my number one option)
Bi Xenon headlights with washers
Harmon Kardon sound system
6 disc CD changer
All weather floor mats

Work done

SBC. Pump replaced under warranty
6 new glow plugs
New from bearings
New front ball joints and tie rods
E55 AMG wheels, staggered.

Overall condition. 8/10

The interior needs a little polishin, b pillar has done wear and so does the stearing wheel. Nose of the car has a 3m clear bra which needs yo be replaced but it took the brunt of road debris damage. Paint has some scuffs which I hope can be polished out. Love the Everest green, almost looks black at night. The right wax will make the car pop.

I'm imcredibly happy with the car. I need to do the injector seals. I have the puller. I just need to gather up the nerve to do it. The clamping holt likes to do so apparently. Dealer quoted me at $500 to do the job, for all 6, might call back and confirm.

Future mods: some totem of tune, restore to AMG wheels, paint the calipers silver, and that's about it.

When your headlight switch is on manual low beams (not auto setting), the active feature is enabled. You can see it work if you park the car and rotate the steering wheel from one side to another. Motors move the lights around upon activation also.

It is subtle and designed so you cannot see the movement while driving.

For upcoming project, I am thinking of adding Sirius Radio. I am not going to add the MB box and reprogram the radio. I am going to add a stand alone unit and plug it into the auxiliary plug port in the glove box.

Red calipers are #1, Yellow #2.

ALL of these cars needed the Xenon headlamps. Very poor headlamp design-performance on the basic Es.

I noticed it wasn't mentioned in the manual. Too bad.

BTW, here is a CDI specific brochure for MY2006 you might enjoy. :)

Actros617 03-23-2015 02:24 AM

Maybe consider a 2007-2009 E320 Bluetec, they're getting cheap.

The second gen W211 got a major updates like

No SBC
Improved sound insulation and wind noise
OM642 3.0L V6 (Improvement in torque, and power)
7 speed transmission (no transistor plate problem)

My Spec

2008 Obsidian Black with Black MB Tex interior
Purchased it for $12,000 in 2012 at 110k miles
Current Miles 130k

Options:
Sunroof
Command w/Navi
Voice control
Iphone connection w/Bluetooth connection for command
Rear sunshade package
Rain sensing wipers

Services done after purchase
Brake fluid flushed and replaced
Transmission Fluid and filter
Fuel Filter
Air filter
Rear Differential fluid
Power Steering fluid

Minor Repairs
2x Intercooler Hose @ 3/2014
4x Struts @ 6/2014
Ball Joint @ 6/2014

Major Repair
Oil cooler Seal replacement @ 12/2014 Click Here!

The car runs great sure it threw some tantrum at me but it wasn't any thing that i couldn't handle, the previous owner seriously neglected its maintenance however to a point where the fuel filter had a 2007 date stamped on it, and the air filter was filled to the brim of dead large grasshoppers, leaves and all kinds of assorted bugs. Other than that it drives just fine, now with that oil cooler problem is resolved (common problem with OM642) should give me many years of service.

Ha- virtually no one thinks the OM642 is an improvement. Worse mileage and while it states it has the same HP no one driving thinks it's anywhere close.

It is very unfortunate that almost everyone hates the OM642 just because its a V6, until one drives one then their perception will change.

I like the OM648 too its a robust engine no doubt and the granddaddy of the modern mercedes diesel engine but OM642 has better off the line combined with that 7 speed torque delivery is very linear and torque on the OM642 is rated at 400 lb/ft vs 313 lb/ft, we don't measure HP's in Diesel :P, MPG been getting 30-32 mpg with a light foot of course.

I drove several (2008s and 2009) W211 diesels before deciding to go with the OM648, because of the I6 engine. Sans the shift points of the trans. I didn't feel any difference in how the 08/09 cars drove versus the 2006 CDI.

Why are you posting here about your 2008 or is it a 2009, taking this thread far afield and off-topic, anyway?

No one "hates" them- however this is not a thread about them- in fact it's a thread about the w211 that does not have the OM642.

The 0-60 time of the 2007 is listed at 7.1 while the 2006 with less torque and two less gears is listed at 6.6.

The 2007 OM642 in the w211 EPA estimate is 26/35- which is worse than the 2006 with the OM648.

If you care to respond please do so in a thread about the w211 with the OM648. I'll even start it for your comments.

See #38:

No significant mechanical differences.

the 05's had a few available options such a dynamic seats.

Center console on '05 was changed mid-way through the production year so I think there are late production 2005 model years with the newer console/cup holder configuration. I still prefer earlier design as I like padded arm rest and design is more traditional MB and the way new MBss are too.

'05s tend to have more options on them in general.

The residual heat function was on early 2005s but not on late 2005s or 2006s.

Someone on MBWorld stated, "The COMAND units in 2005 has DVD optics, and can read MP3 files from DVD media. The 2006 has CD optics."

I am not aware of any mechanical/part modifications done as a result of early production gremlins showing in the early 2005s.

Solar panel was to provide power for ventilation for panoramic roof I believe

My vehicle has the fully auto trunk closer which is partially working. There is a red illuminated button on the inside of the lid that powers the trunk closed and a button on the driver door that does the same. The button on the inside of the trunk lid does not work....i suspect a broken wire in the hinge. The trunk can be manually closed but Mercedes left the hand indention handle to do this as on the non-powered car.

This is relevant and a good point. Do you really limit yourself to two years of a 10 year model run because of an engine?. It's the few extra weekenda you spend working on the v6 pita worth it over the time you have the car? It could be?

We're been doing it for ever being diesel people we don't give it much thought. 87 wagon diesel , 98 99 turbo e300

I'll come in with my specs on my 06 soon. It's awesome. I drove it like two weeks straight. Fun. A waste though because you can't speed around here. Chips wherever with radar guns. But I think the wife is getting it. I said if she could sell her 1999 for a good price she'd get the 211. And looks like she did to a friend at work. I didn't think it would happen.

The latter models do have a lot going for them like you said. I've consoled my loss with thoughts of a black s500 Or s320 blu. maybe 2008 in a few years when they cost less. i love the big mercedes boat ride feel.

Really nice vehicles to operate. Time will tell re: longevity but I am hopeful they have the potential to go 400-500k with normal preventative maintenance.

2006 with 190,000 miles - bought it with 150,000 miles a year ago
bi xenon, folding rear seats and ski pass through , leather
keyless go that works fine

super happy with this car and plan to keep it several years and put a lot of miles on it

quick for such a big sedan and gets great mpg

have done injector seals
did shocks although they were not too bad

did a couple of the fuel lines

thermostat

changed all fluids etc
nothing else comes to mind

planning to add an aftermarket parktronic like set up

and to take it to houston and have distronic retrofitted sometime in the next year

will add i have an 08 ml320cdi with the om642 and while i like the truck and have been super lucky with no issues on mine i do not think the v6 is going to be as overall reliable as my 06 e class

Hard to find examples with the fold down seats. I have both a w123 wagon and the CDI, I plan on keeping both.

Yeah, somewhat - 550 miles...

Sounds like a honey of a CDI there!
No NAV and moonroof though.
I'd sure like to see that one.

I don't think my car has the pass through for skis.

I totally took advantage of the fold down rear seats and removed the bottoms to haul some 2x6x8's

Wish the front passenger seat folded flat like they do in Europe. Maybe I can retrofit that feature

Skid Row Joe 03-30-2015 10:40 PM

If it didn't come with option; #282 SKI-BAG, probably not.

TheDon 03-30-2015 11:12 PM

I bet it can be retrofitted.....

Are you sure about pass through?......you might want to check and see if there is a door inside the arm rest nook. There is a small finger activated switch that allows the door to open...inside is a bag attached to the opening.

Something (possibly) funky about that El Paso car. (?)

The Carfax report states 2 owners, not one. What is funky is that it is listed as being first sold in 2004, therefore it is an early 2005 build. BUT - it has the later style center console.

courtney 03-30-2015 11:42 PM

i would be very interested in retrofitting my front seats to fold down flat if anyone ever does that let us know how it goes

i looked for 8-9 months for my car and had just about given up

wanted one loaded with bi xenon, keyless go and folding rear seats, would have liked to get parktronic but the other three were the most important and hardest to retrofit

but i live in southern az where it is really hot and wanted only silver or white exterior
and only from southern or no snow states
limited my options a lot

but it was worth it, super happy with this car

had a nice 99 e300 and loved it but this one is so much faster and gets much better mpg
sold the e300 to my best friend and she loves it

No switch or bag anywhere but it looks like instead of that stuff is just a delete panel.

Regardless, how's about some pics of all these passageways? I'm most curious about their inner workings. A few shots of the fold down process of the sear bottom folding forward would be priceless too! 😅

Seat folded forward. You can see the ski bag opening. They did not move the seat bottoms to the upright position so the seat backs could lay flat for this photo.

MB_FanAddict 04-01-2015 03:34 PM

Not sure if anyone has seen this one?

Mercedes Black E320 CDI, 2006 DIESEL with less than 6030 miles Mint! - $32999 (Marietta)

It's a shame that they can't even get it out of the garage to take pics! I doubt it's been regularly maintained either.
For that kind of money, I'd rather have a late model E350 BlueTEC or new CLA myself!

That's a conundrum for sure. For the mid-$50Ks, you can tax/title/license and buy a new E250 Bluetec.

As per maintenance - there's not a lot necessary on a car that's got those kind of low miles on it. With full-synthetic oil, it's probably still within technical standards. Driven enough to keep it relevant, and ready to drive, IMO.

If one keeps the miles down, this car will likely retain much if not all of the asking price. Unfortunately, those dollars won't compound over time. I'd like to own it, but not for those dollars. Beautiful car, nonetheless.

Ck. your manual....I think it specifies folding seat bottom forward before folding seat back down.
