1993 300 SD w/ 606
Hi, I think it's time to sell my baby. I used it as a summer cruiser. 142,000 miles new front tires. 105,000 on the 606. Great running car what's it worth? Any ideas ? Thanks jef http://606transplant.shutterfly.com/

That is an awesome swap, very clean. Only I would have clean/painted all of the visible metal (such as the oil filter housing), not just the intake manifold.

Damn, that's tempting...
I did some digging on the net. I must first commend you on doing a well thought out, meticulously detailed, and well done installation. Dare I say that you probably did a better job than I would have done, and I've done a fair number of engine swaps in years past.
Your primary question was about the value of the car – and that is difficult to ascertain. Unfortunately the severe depreciation of all w140 cars is a factor, even in a situation where you have a unique car on offer. It will take someone who is an enthusiast; somebody that really appreciates the attributes of both the 606.962 and the w140 chassis. That being said, this forum is probably your best bet. Personally, I absolutely LOVE the 606 engines, but I am wary about the w140 chassis. (Ignorance breeds fear?) If this conversion was done to a late w126 rod-bender, I might be all over it for a long distance & cross-country cruiser. It would be helpful to list other aspects of your car. How about the overall condition and history of rust and/or accident damage and/or paint work? More importantly, what (major $$$) common problem areas on the w140's have already been addressed – such as the A/C evaporator? Has the trans been gone through, or is is original? Has any of the suspension rubber (or joints) been replaced yet? Are all the ancillaries functioning? Convince me that I'm not insane to consider a w140 chassis, and I might just bite...

Thanks Dave, your input is always helpful & appreciated.
I've done *A LOT* of reading on the w140's during the past couple of days, and my prior trepidations are mostly allayed. I bought my w210 with intentions of using it for cross-country drives but it isn't as comfortable for my aging & decrepit lower back as my w124's have been. So the idea of a w140 with a 606.962 sounds very interesting indeed. I don't necessarily need a leviathan sized car, but if a w140 rides even nicer than a w126, then this just may be the ticket. I'm also curious to know what type of mileage he's getting with it. Hopefully the original poster will return soon...

I'm not sure what I'm getting for mileage. All I know it's a blast to drive and yes the evap coil was done . Front end is tight new tires, a few small things but Nothing crazy.

I second the comments on the meticulous engine swap. I have so much respect for MBZ enthusiasts who have the knowledge and yes, the balls to attempt such a complex and challenging project! Major props. I hope you get a good price for your S300 Turbo Diesel - one that reflects the care and hard work you invested into the car!

I appreciate the terrific comments about my car even though it was a lot of enjoyable work I appreciate the benefits of a wonderful car .although not perfect it has a few of the w140 gremlins ,it's still a smooth quiet great car to drive especially at a 85 plus miles an hour!

All I saw was pics of engine. Do you have pics of whole car? A newer s class turbo diesel is really awesome and something the whole United states has None of.

Which is funny because the W116 and W126 diesels were US only, now we only get the AMGs, S550 and S600.

We do have S350 BlueTecs which have been around for awhile in the US, albeit rarer.
