oil leak

Any idea's what that round thing is on the block above the alternator on the L6 motor? I've got oil leaking all over my alternator and I think that is the culprit.

Thanks guys

I'm not sure based on your description, but it could be the timing chain tensioner - What is an L6 Motor?

what year/model of car do you have?

The L6 is the 6 cyl. in the 95 E300D. I was wondering what that inverted nut was for.
