2.5t to 3.0 non-turbo engine swap?

Hello all,
I've been driving and loving my newer 05 CDI, but still have and love driving the 91 300d. In fact the 91 handles much better then the 05 IMO and if it had any power I would be still driving it.
It has over 500k on the clock, less then 100k on trans and fresh paint, but the motor seems real tired and has many annoying leaks. I've done many updates to include New injectors, etc., but it still gets not the greatest mileage(avg. 23-25 mixed) and is semi sluggish.
I can snag a complete 95 Low mileage none repairable 124 for not much money and thought about doing a motor swap.
I would think it would be pretty straight forward especially with complete harness and CPU available.
Thoughts, ideas, problems, suggestions.
Thanks
DD
ps It's got a 95 hood so why not toss a 95 motor under it!

My '95 with OM606 gets about 27 around town, I've gotten as high as 32 on the highway but more typically I get about 29 mpg. I do tend to drive about 8 over the limit, so getting 29 mpg at 78 mph isn't TOO bad...

I think you'll want to also transplant the transmission and differential?

You may also need to move over the front suspension springs, as the OM606 may be a little heavier.

Have you tested the boost pressure? Many a disappointed OM602 Turbo owner because of the digital wastegate. $100 can make it a new car if you convert to a pressure actuated wastegate.

I originally had a faulty Over Boost valve that was killing the Boost, I unhooked it and boost seems good and if i remember correctly peaks around 12psi?

I've had many turbo cars, but they were all controlled by waste gate presser that was easy to fool, the Benz seems to have an open waste gate and uses the boost controller to close it for boost???

That is right. Search around here. There is a procedure of changing the waste gate actuator to a "pressure" type that opens on a high, set boost pressure. Works great on the 2.5 application.

Wastegate actuator swap for OM602.962?

This might still be available - Mercedes E 300 Diesel

But really, there are good cars out there and one has to wonder about the value after an engine swap. I know the seller of this car - 1991 Mercedes 300D 2.5 Diesel (san bruno) - (5 year old IP!!) which makes me wonder what my time's worth.
